According to FAM, the Malaysian team will gather in Johor Bahru on May 18 with 28 players. The group of players including Syihan Hazmi, Corbin-Ong, Matthew Davies, Shahrul Saad, Junior Eldstal, Afiq Fazail, Romel Morales and Endrick dos Santos cannot participate due to being busy playing for Johor Darul Ta'zim Club.

In addition, Dion Cools and naturalized midfielder Hector Hevel are expected to join the national team on June 1. Dion Cools is playing for Buriram Utd (Thailand) so he has to play the second leg of the Southeast Asian Club Cup final against CAHN (May 21) and the Thai FA Cup. Hector Hevel, who used to play for the Netherlands U20 team, is busy serving Portimonense in the Portuguese Second Division.

Malaysia lists 38 players to compete with Vietnam

Before the decisive match with Vietnam at Bukit Janil (June 10), Malaysia will play two friendly matches with Cape Verde (May 29 and June 3).

The Vietnam vs Malaysia match is of key importance in Group F, as it will greatly affect the race for the only ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup.

"Malaysia has not beaten Vietnam for more than a decade. In the last 16 matches, Malaysia has only won 2 matches against Vietnam. That creates great motivation for the players. Of course, we need to be humble and realistic.

Our biggest challenge is to change history and win the upcoming important match. I hope nothing unusual happens to Malaysia and the players will be in the best health to enter the match with the Vietnamese team," said coach Peter Cklamovski.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese team will gather on May 26, with about 2 weeks to prepare for the match against Malaysia.
