Malaysia plans to naturalize 30 European and South American players

The naturalized players helped the Malaysian team beat the Vietnamese team 4-0. The Malaysian newspaper Metro wrote: “The appearance of the new naturalized players including Facundo Garces, Jon Irazabal, Hector Hevel, Joao Figueiredo, Rodrigo Holgado, Gabriel Palmero and Imanol Machuca made a big impact.”

“This is an investment in the future of Malaysian football. Malaysia’s naturalization policy will not stop until Harimau Malaya (the nickname of the Malaysian team) enters the FIFA top 100,” Metro added.

“We are looking for good players who are playing both locally and abroad. There is a long list of potential players sent to me. However, they need to go through a trial process to be able to play for Harimau Malaya,” he revealed.

“The players summoned must not only have high technical quality and extensive experience, but also have a desire to wear the Malaysian national team jersey,” coach Peter Cklamovski emphasized.

After defeating the Vietnamese team on June 10, the Malaysian team will almost certainly top Group F of the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup. This means they will secure a ticket to the final round of the Asian Championship next year, while the Vietnamese team is almost eliminated.
