Man City continued to show their superior strength at Etihad when they defeated Liverpool 3-0 in round 11 of the 2025-26 Premier League, which took place on the night of November 9. Striker Erling Haaland contributed with his 99th goal in the tournament, while coach Pep Guardiola had a complete victory in his 1000th match as a coach.

This is also Liverpool's fourth consecutive away defeat in the Premier League this season, their worst run of results since 2012.
Man City entered the game full of confidence, having won nine of their last 10 home games. In the opening minutes, Jeremy Doku caused trouble when he stole the ball from Ibrahima Konate and caused goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili to foul him in the box. However, Mamardashvili made up for his mistake by saving Haaland's penalty kick.
The home team maintained strong pressure and was soon rewarded. In the 29th minute, from an attack on the left wing, Haaland jumped high to head the ball into the visitors' net after a pass from Matheus Nunes, opening the score for Man City and scoring his 99th goal in the Premier League.

Liverpool were outplayed for much of the first half. The visitors looked to have equalised when Virgil van Dijk headed home from Mohamed Salah's corner, but VAR ruled Andrew Robertson offside and the goal was disallowed.
Before Liverpool could regain their composure, Man City continued to punish their opponents. In first-half stoppage time, Nico Gonzalez's low shot hit Van Dijk's foot and changed direction, leaving Mamardashvili helpless, raising the score to 2-0 for the home team.
In the second half, Liverpool tried to push up the attack to find a goal to reduce the gap. Conor Bradley had two dangerous crosses but both were ineffective, one was accidentally blocked by Gonzalez and the other was shot over the bar by Cody Gakpo.
The visitors' efforts were quickly extinguished when Doku scored a beautiful goal, sealing a 3-0 victory for Man City after a skillful dribble and a tricky finish in the 63rd minute. In the final minutes, Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah had the chance to score an honorary goal for the visitors, but were blocked by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and their shots went wide of the post.

This victory was Man City's 7th in the last 8 matches in all competitions, helping them narrow the gap with the top team Arsenal to 4 points. For Pep Guardiola, this is a memorable milestone as he closed the 1000th match of his coaching career with a convincing victory.
Meanwhile, coach Arne Slot's Liverpool continued to decline when they lost 6 of their last 7 domestic matches, falling to 8th place in the rankings and 4 points behind the Champions League group.
