Man City thrashed Juventus

In the early hours of June 27th, Manchester City demonstrated their class and squad depth by defeating Juventus 5-2 in the final matchday of Group G of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™.

This result officially secured Pep Guardiola's team's qualification to the next round as group winners. This was the first victory for the English team against Juventus since 1976.

Despite rotating his squad, manager Pep Guardiola created a cohesive and fast-paced team. As early as the 9th minute, new signing Rayan Ait-Nouri provided a superb assist for Jeremy Doku to open the scoring with a powerful shot into the far corner. However, Man City's early advantage was short-lived, as goalkeeper Ederson made a mistake with a misplaced pass, allowing Teun Koopmeiners to equalize just two minutes later.

The difference in strength between Man City and Juventus is quite significant.

Man City unexpectedly regained the lead when Matheus Nunes' shot, which wasn't particularly dangerous, was inadvertently converted into an own goal by Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu. Before the end of the first half, Omar Marmoush and Ait-Nouri repeatedly tested goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio, forcing him to make several saves.

In the second half, Guardiola brought Erling Haaland on and it immediately had an effect. Following a well-executed combination, Nunes assisted Haaland, who easily tapped the ball in to make it 3-1 in the 52nd minute. Shortly after, Juventus had a chance to reduce the deficit, but Dusan Vlahović failed to beat Ederson in a one-on-one situation.

The decisive blow came in the 69th minute, when Phil Foden scored to make it 4-1, before Savinho scored the most beautiful goal of the match with a shot from outside the box that hit the crossbar and went into the net. Vlahovic then scored a consolation goal in the final 10 minutes, but it couldn't change the outcome.
