Kpop girl group NewJeans has just successfully held 2 Japanese fan meetings “Bunnies Camp 2024” at Tokyo Dome, with 91,200 people in attendance.
In addition to the group performances, the solo stages of the five members also received great attention. Among them, Hanni impressed with her performance of “Aoi Sangoshou” (or Blue Coral Reef) - a typical song of the famous Japanese idol Seiko Matsuda in the 1980s.
Hanni's videos on social media and YouTube platforms receive the most interactions in the group.
On Twitter, an audience member posted Hanni’s performance and said, “I didn’t expect Hanni to sing Seiko Matsuda’s ‘Aoi Sangoshou’. I think she cut her hair short just for the occasion, and I was impressed that she looked like a Japanese idol from the 80s.”
This video currently has 5.1 million views. Some of Hanni's other videos have also reached 3.7 million and 1.7 million views on Twitter.
At the time of the NewJeans fan meeting, Hanni’s video was trending in the Top 5 on Yahoo Japan. Later, the song “Blue Coral Reef” entered the Korean Spotify and Apple Music charts thanks to Hanni’s influence.
On YouTube, Hanni's video reached 1 million views after 36 hours of posting. This is the first individual video of NewJeans members in the Tokyo Dome fan meeting to achieve this achievement.
Oricon News describes: “When Hanni appeared with Blue Coral Reef, the loudest cheers of the day erupted. The large audience went wild as the idol sang the 80s classic and smiled brightly. Tokyo Dome was filled with such excitement that the echoes of the explosive performance continued even after dark.”
Hanni revealed that producer Min Hee Jin was the one who chose this song for her. Min Hee Jin smiled backstage and said, “I was listening from the back. It was great to see everyone go wow.”
According to Oricon News, after the performance, social networks and media were abuzz with Hanni's stage. The audience left a series of compliments: "Hani's Blue Coral Reef is amazing", "Hani's Blue Coral Reef won big", "The song selection is very good", "The style and outfit are perfect", "Min Hee Jin is truly a genius"...
Billboard commented that NewJeans had a different fan meeting when the group mainly focused on music with performances throughout, instead of playing games and interacting like other Kpop fan meetings.
“NewJeans' event chose to forgo those (other activities) for a more musical gathering, based on the concept of entertaining fans through songs,” Billboard wrote.
Tokyo Dome is a “dream stage” for artists, including top Japanese stars. And according to Korean media, NewJeans made history by becoming the fastest K-pop artist to perform on the Tokyo Dome stage since their debut, after only 1 year and 11 months.
