"The performance that is below the standard that everyone expects from Man Utd so far is still not good enough," coach Ten Hag expressed after his team's 0-3 loss to Newcastle on the morning of November 2 (Vietnam time) and was eliminated from the English League Cup in the fourth round.

The "Red Devils" were soon 2 goals behind the "Magpies" in the first half, but Man Utd could not improve the situation in the second half and let Willock score the winning goal 3-0 in the 61st minute of the match.

Notably, this was Newcastle's second win at Old Trafford in 51 years, and they successfully "avenged" their defeat in the English League Cup final last season. Before losing to Newcastle, Man Utd lost 0-3 to Man City in the Premier League at Old Trafford last weekend.

"At the moment we are playing quite badly. I take responsibility for this defeat but I see it as a challenge. I am a warrior and I am participating in the team's fight.

I have to take responsibility for my players, to continue fighting together and achieve better results," Coach Ten Hag admitted responsibility after the loss but he declared that he would soon help Man Utd turn the situation around.

"Obviously the team didn't play well enough but whatever the reason is there's no excuse. Man Utd have to do better and we have to raise our standards because otherwise you never get good results.

But I am a warrior. I know the team does not always win, even losing a lot this season, but we have to face it and not blame each other," the Dutch strategist added.

Meanwhile, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe praised his players after the win: "It was a great performance from the players, I can't praise them enough.

Personally I always find it a tough ground and Newcastle are the same, so it was a great win. I thought we scored some classy goals, the quality of the game was really good.

Our message in the first half was to be positive, be brave and continue to do the right things to bring success."
