"Godmother" lights up the dreams of poor students in the mountainous region of Phuoc Son

From the connection of the Women's Union of Phuoc Son district, the program "Godmother - Sharing love" has become a solid support, helping many orphaned and poor students continue to go to school.

The “Godmother” program has been implemented by the Women’s Union of Phuoc Son district since 2022. Up to now, it has connected 35 students with benefactors. The students are supported from 200,000 VND to 1 million VND per month, along with gifts, scholarships and school supplies... The total support value of the program is more than 600 million VND.

One of the inspiring stories is Tran Hung Thinh, a 12th grade student at Kham Duc High School. Orphaned at a young age and with his mother passing away from cancer in 2022, Thinh has faced many difficulties.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Yen, a philanthropist from Ho Chi Minh City, has sponsored her with a monthly support of 500,000 VND until she completes high school.

“Thanks to the help of Hoang Yen’s mother, I have more motivation to try to focus on studying and prepare well for the upcoming exam” - Thinh shared. Currently, Thinh is working hard to study to realize his dream of going to university. The program has connected Thinh with another “godmother”, adding more motivation for the upcoming journey.

Similar to Thinh, Y Phung, a Gie Trieng ethnic in Lao Mung village (Phuoc Xuan commune), is also an example of overcoming difficulties that the program connected her with her godmother. Orphaned by her father, living with her mother and two sisters in poverty, Phung never gave up on her studies.

Sponsored by journalist Huynh Thi Phuong Thuy (working at Quang Nam Radio and Television Station), Phung has more confidence to rise up. In 2024, she was one of 6 poor students who overcame difficulties in Quang Nam to participate in a study exchange program in Korea. "Ms. Thuy is like a second mother, always encouraging me to pursue my dreams" - Phung said emotionally.

Ms. Huynh Thi Phuong Thuy - who is sponsoring 5 students, shared: "Seeing them overcome difficulties and achieve good results, I feel proud and happy for them.

Through the program, I hope the children will find more empathy and motivation from our small concern to understand that the journey ahead will never be alone" - Ms. Thuy said.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hiep - President of the Women's Union of Phuoc Son district said that the program not only has humanistic meaning but also contributes to changing the children's lives.

“We are continuing to call for more benefactors to support more than 400 other orphans and poor children in the area, especially ethnic minority children at high risk of dropping out of school,” said Ms. Hiep.

The 2025 exam season is coming, the aspirations of poor students in the mountainous region of Phuoc Son are accompanied by more gratitude towards the godmothers who have opened their arms of love. The Women's Union of Phuoc Son district is continuing to call for and connect more kind hearts so that the next journey of the students will still be illuminated...
