Against a direct competitor for a playoff spot, Chicago Fire, Inter Miami had to win. However, Messi's continued absence caused many difficulties for Miami's attack and they lost heavily on the away field.

Entering the second half, Inter Miami conceded an early goal in the 49th minute. Conceding a goal, the away team pushed up their attack. In the 53rd minute, Inter Miami equalized 1-1 thanks to Josef Martinez from the 11m mark after a Chicago Fire player let the ball touch his hand in the penalty area.
