On August 14, the government of Mexico's Veracruz state said police found the bodies of at least 13 people hidden in freezers in several buildings in the state.
On-site examination and forensic work are underway to identify the victims and those involved. Six suspects have been detained for questioning.
Veracruz is an oil-rich state along the Gulf of Mexico coast that has long been a hotbed for human and drug trafficking, as well as other criminal activity.
Mexican government figures show more than 400 people have died in Veracruz in the first half of this year.
