Although only 141km long, stage 17 of the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup - Ton Dong A 2025 is considered by experts to be the "decisive stage" of this year's season.
This was due to the two dangerous passes of Khanh Le and Giang Ly playing a key role in the overall determination. After more than 50km of competition, the match really exploded at the foot of Khanh Le Pass when a series of attacks broke out from the large group.
Successfully breaking through in the battle up the pass was the duo Mikhail Fokin and Samuel Jenner (620 Chau Thoi Vinh Long ). They quickly created a significant gap with the group behind, despite the pursuit efforts of the second group led by Johnny Hoogerland (TP.HCM - Vinama).
When about 20km from Khanh Le peak, Savva Novikov (Binh Minh Binh Duong Plastic) launched a strong attack from group two. He quickly joined the leading group, cooperating tactically to push the speed up very high.
However, as Jenner quickly ran out of steam, only the Russian duo Mikhail Fokin - Savva Novikov joined forces to widen the gap with the group behind.
At the top of Khanh Le Pass, Savva Novikov crossed the finish line first and officially took the red polka dot jersey of the overall mountain king. This is a worthy reward for the persistent efforts of the foreign player of Binh Minh Binh Duong Plastics in the mountain races since the beginning of the tournament.
At the foot of Giang Ly Pass, Mikhail Fokin and Savva Novikov continued to maintain their offensive position. Despite facing the winding terrain, high altitude and cool climate of the highlands, the two coordinated smoothly to reach the finish line first in Da Lat City.
Makhail Fokin then moved ahead of compatriot Novikov at the finish line to win the stage, cementing his position in the overall yellow jersey.
Exciting orange jersey battle of Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup 2025
In the latter group, the competition for the overall orange jersey for the Vietnamese athlete with the best performance was intense between Nguyen Hoang Sang (Le Fruit Maxxis Dong Nai ) and Pham Le Xuan Loc (Military Zone 7). These two racers were almost stuck together throughout the stage, "holding the speed" to watch each other's every step.
However, the excessive "mind-fight" caused both of them to be caught up by Tran Le Minh Tuan and Nguyen Thang (HCMC - Vinama). This group then increased their speed and reached the finish line together, with Hoang Sang continuing to hold on to the orange jersey after a strong effort.
Another notable technical detail is that Nicholas Kergozou (620 Nong Nghiep Vinh Long) finished about 30 minutes slower than Fokin but still within the time limit, thereby preserving the overall green jersey for the racer with the best sprint of the race.
On April 22, the racers will compete in stage 18 around Xuan Huong Lake (Da Lat City) with a total distance of 51km. This is a short race, promising exciting chases between the top sprinters.
