Minamino is Monaco's hero.

On the morning of May 11, Monaco officially secured a place in next season's Champions League, after overcoming tough opponents Lyon right at home. Goals from Takumi Minamino (62nd minute) and Denis Zakaria (68th) helped Monaco secure a place in next season's Champions League qualifying round.

After 33 rounds, Monaco has 61 points, 4 points more than the fourth-placed team Nice, while this season's Ligue 1 has one round left to go. The top 3 teams in this season's Ligue 1 rankings will directly qualify for the Champions League qualifying round next season, while the fourth-placed team will participate in the qualifying round.

This is an impressive achievement for Monaco, in the context that they have faced many difficulties since the beginning of the season and their opponents in Ligue 1 have risen strongly.

As for Minamino, the Japanese striker continues to have an impressive season. He is one of the best Asian players this season in Europe, scoring 9 goals and making 4 assists in all competitions for Monaco.

After a lackluster spell at Liverpool due to under-utilisation under manager Jurgen Klopp, Minamino found stability when he moved to Ligue 1 in 2022.

At Monaco, he quickly took the starting position and became a mainstay. Minamino has also just become the highest-paid player at AS Monaco (more than 4 million euros/year) after extending his contract until 2027.
