Open 20,000 cards in 24 hours, Pokemon 'die-hard' fan breaks Guinness record

According to VGC , a group of Pokémon fans set a new Guinness World Record for the longest 'unboxing' livestream, by continuously opening more than 1,500 Pokémon card packs within 24 hours.

The event was held to celebrate the release of the latest Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Surging Sparks card set. The livestream featured many well-known faces in the Pokémon community, including Joe Merrick (Serebii webmaster), PokeGirlRach (Instagram creator), and Mayplaystv (TikTok creator).

All cards opened during the livestream will be donated to charities in the UK.

“It was an incredible 24 hours of card openings and we’re thrilled to have achieved this ambitious Guinness World Record title with an amazing team of content creators,” said Peter Murphy, Senior Director of Marketing at The Pokémon Company International.

The next expansion for the Pokémon trading card game, Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet: Prismatic Evolutions , is scheduled to launch in January 2025 and is themed around the monster Eevee and its evolutions.
