Sand mine in Tan Khanh Trung commune, Lap Vo district (Dong Thap) is directly exploited by Hoang Anh Company.

Mr. Vu Hong Son, sand mine operator, Hoang Anh Construction and Trading Company Limited (construction contractor) said that the sand mine serving the construction of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway began exploitation on December 28, expected to last through Tet.

"However, by December 29, the transport unit could not mobilize workers to operate the barge, so exploitation had to be temporarily suspended.

During the first days of resumption of exploitation, the company mobilized two barges and exploited about 1,200m3/day.

Starting from the 5th day of Tet , the company has mobilized the full amount of equipment and exploited according to the reserves granted for the day," Mr. Son added.

Present at the sand mine, the reporter recorded a very urgent working atmosphere.

Mr. To Anh Tuan (48 years old), a dredger operator, said: "Although the Tet atmosphere is still there, everyone puts it aside and gets right to work. There is no such thing as taking it easy at the beginning of the year."

The sand mining site managed by Hoang Anh Company is the first mine to resume operations out of five mines that were shut down during Tet.

Mr. Le Hoai Nam said that the unit coordinated with Hoang Anh Company to transport sand to the construction site of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway. "Starting from the 4th day of Tet, barge drivers have returned to work. We will mobilize enough barges to the sand mining site to soon bring sand to the expressway construction site according to regulations."

Meanwhile, the remaining sand mines have also resumed exploitation since February 15 (the 6th day of Tet).

The sand mine in Tan My and Tan Khanh Trung communes, Lap Vo district, with an area of 32.05 hectares directly exploited by Tan Nam Company, will resume operations on the 9th day of Tet.

Previously, Dong Thap province handed over 7 sand mines under a special mechanism to the contractor constructing the longitudinal expressway in the West for direct exploitation.

Of these, two mines in Hong Ngu district operate during the Lunar New Year, while the remaining five mines are closed for Tet.

The Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway project connects many provinces in the Mekong Delta. In phase 1, the project has a total investment of more than VND 27,200 billion, divided into two component projects including Can Tho - Hau Giang, 36.7km long, with an investment capital of over VND 9,700 billion, and Hau Giang - Ca Mau, 72.8km long, with a capital of nearly VND 17,500 billion.
Construction started on January 1, 2023 and is expected to be completed in early 2026. The total sand demand for the entire project is about 18.1 million m3. In 2023 alone, 9.1 million m3 is needed and in 2024, 9 million m3 is needed.
