Hanoi-Bac Giang BOT Investment Joint Stock Company has just sent a document to the Ministry of Construction and the Vietnam Road Administration proposing to expand the Hanoi-Bac Giang expressway to 10 lanes under the public-private partnership (PPP) form.
A representative of the Hanoi-Bac Giang BOT Investment Joint Stock Company said that currently, the traffic volume through the toll station is about 53,500 trips/day and night. Meanwhile, according to the financial plan in the BOT contract, the full load volume of the route in 2022 will be only over 46,000 trips/day and night. Notably, the traffic volume has continued to increase steadily at a rate of about 11% per year in the past three years.
With the number of vehicles increasing continuously in recent times, the route has become overloaded, no longer ensuring operating speed, frequent congestion, potential risk of accidents and increased transportation costs, affecting the competitiveness of the region.
Assessing the need to soon invest in expanding the Hanoi-Bac Giang expressway to 8 lanes as planned, however, based on the reality of rapidly increasing traffic, Hanoi-Bac Giang BOT Investment Joint Stock Company proposed the Ministry of Construction to allow the proposal to expand the route to 10 lanes under the PPP method to meet the increasing transportation demand, improve service quality, reduce traffic congestion and accidents.
The project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 1, Hanoi-Bac Giang section under the BOT form, has a total length of more than 46km, with a total investment of more than 4,000 billion VND, designed according to expressway standards, operating speed of 100km/h. The section from Bac Giang to Nhu Nguyet bridge has a scale of 4 lanes, the roadbed is 33m wide. The section from Nhu Nguyet bridge to Km 159+258 also has a scale of 4 lanes, the roadbed is 34m wide.
This expressway starts at Km113+985 (National Highway 1), Dinh Tri ward, Bac Giang city and ends at Km159+100 (location of the old Phu Dong toll station), Phuc Loi ward, Long Bien district, Hanoi.
The project was put into operation in April 2016 and started collecting tolls in May of the same year, with a toll collection period of 21 years.
The Hanoi-Bac Giang Expressway is invested by a consortium including Van Phu Investment Joint Stock Company, Dong Son Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company, Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Corporation, and Ocean Group Joint Stock Company.
According to the road network planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, the Hanoi-Bac Giang-Lang Son expressway is 137km long, with a scale of 6 lanes. The Hanoi-Bac Giang section alone is 46km long, planned to be expanded to 8 expressway lanes.
