A hair given, many smiles returned

“Since she was little, Linh Dan has loved long-haired princesses and wanted to have long hair just like that, so she refused to cut it even a little bit. When my daughter said she wanted to donate her hair, I was very surprised. I asked her over and over again and made it clear to her that if she cut it off, it would not be possible to reattach it, and gave her time to think carefully, but Linh Dan was very determined to donate her hair to friends with cancer,” Linh confided.

She still remembers the moment her little daughter cut her long hair, she smiled brightly and said: “I am very happy. Mom, please remember to give my hair to my friends! I will continue to grow my hair long to donate to many more friends”. At that moment, Truc Linh felt very happy and proud because even though her daughter’s actions were very small, she knew how to share and live for others, she had truly grown up.

“Donating hair, blood, or organs… are beautiful and extremely meaningful actions. Happiness is sharing, giving is forever,” Ms. Truc Linh added.

A braided hair tied firmly with many elastic bands and attached with cute flowers, Ms. Huynh Van Anh, announcer of Ca Mau Radio and Television Station, carefully put it in an envelope according to the instructions and sent it to the BCNV Hair Library (initiated by the Vietnam Breast Cancer Network). As soon as she received the response letter, she was very happy. She shared a status on her personal page to contribute to spreading the good deed: "People often ask me why I suddenly cut my hair so short. I send my hair here: Hair Library accompanying cancer patients. I am continuing to grow my hair long to have more hair donations. If possible, please find out and join this meaningful project!". She also included a link to learn about how to donate hair https://bcnv.org.vn/.../24/huong-dan-hien-toc-thu-vien-toc/ .

...and she was happy because her braided hair had reached the BCNV Hair Library.

“When I watched the clips about the joy of the children wearing wigs donated by everyone, I was very touched. Therefore, I hope that my small work can give more faith and strength to the “K warriors” to overcome their illness, to be more confident, courageous and optimistic in life,” Ms. Van Anh shared.

For normal people, hair will grow back after being cut, but for cancer patients, it is very difficult. Donating hair to cancer patients is a way to "say goodbye to long hair in a meaningful way" that Chau Truc Linh and Huynh Van Anh have given more strength to fight for cancer patients. A hair given away, many smiles returned.

The Hair Library is a wig program made from real hair donated by the community, provided free of charge to poor cancer patients who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy. This is a support initiated by the Breast Cancer Network Vietnam (BCNV) since 2015, built on real needs, helping patients gain more confidence and courage to fight cancer.

Hair donors can send hair via courier services to the following addresses:

Vietnam Breast Cancer Network - Hair Library, 122/11 Pho Quang, Ward 9, Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City. Phone number: 0961.924.300.
