When grandmother Maria Ramos arrived at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Florida to pick up her grandson, she was shocked to be told that he was not on the flight even though his luggage had been delivered.
A Spirit Airlines plane
AP reported on December 27 that the incident happened on December 21, when a 6-year-old boy named Casper flew alone from Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) to Fort Myers on a Spirit Airlines flight.
However, the boy boarded the wrong flight of the same airline and arrived at the airport in Orlando, also in Florida, but 260 km from Fort Myers.
“I ran onto the plane and saw the flight attendant and asked her, ‘Where is my child? Was he assigned to you in Philadelphia?’ She said, ‘No, I don’t have any children,’” Ms. Ramos recalled.
She then received a call from the boy, who was at the Orlando airport, saying his plane had landed.
Ms Ramos said Spirit Airlines offered to pay for her ride to Orlando to pick up her grandson. But what she wants is for the airline to explain why her grandson was taken to Orlando. "How did that happen? Did he get off the plane? Or did the flight attendant let him go by himself after receiving him and his papers from his mother? Did he get on the wrong plane?" Ms Ramos said, according to RT.
Spirit Airlines said the unaccompanied boy mistakenly boarded a flight to Orlando and was placed in the care of an airline employee. The airline notified the victim’s family after discovering the mistake.
"We take the safety and responsibility of transporting all of our guests very seriously and are conducting an internal investigation. We apologize to the family for this experience," the airline said in a statement.
