Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of US President-elect Donald Trump, announced on December 21st that she was withdrawing her name from the list of candidates to replace Senator Marco Rubio.
Writing on social media on December 21, Lara Trump stated: "After much thought, consideration, and encouragement from many people, I have decided to withdraw my name from the list of candidates for the U.S. Senate."
Recently, Lara Trump has been rumored to be a potential replacement for Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who was chosen by Donald Trump to be Secretary of State in the new administration and would therefore resign from his congressional position if Trump's nomination is approved. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will choose Rubio's replacement to continue his senatorial term until 2026, Reuters reported.
Lara Trump attended Donald Trump's rally in Florida on November 6th.
In early December, Lara Trump resigned as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), a move believed to be a move to consider her Senate bid. "I am deeply honored to have served as co-chair of the RNC in one of the most precarious elections and truly humbled by the support the American people have given me, and the state of Florida," she said.
Governor Ron DeSantis said he expects to announce his choice of a replacement senator in early January 2025. Lara Trump also added that there will be an important announcement next month, but did not specify what it would be.
Lara Trump, born in 1982, married Donald Trump's son, Eric Trump, in 2014 and has two children. She was very active in supporting Trump during his presidential campaign, particularly while serving as co-chair of the RNC. She was elected to this position in March of this year with unanimous support.
