Trump's daughter-in-law drops out of US Senate race

Mrs. Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of US President-elect Donald Trump, announced on December 21 that she withdrew her name from the list of candidates to replace Senator Marco Rubio.

Writing on social network X on December 21, Ms. Lara Trump said: "After a long time of thinking, considering and encouragement from many people, I have decided to withdraw my name from the list of candidates for the US Senate."

Recently, Lara Trump has been rumored to be a potential replacement for Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who was chosen by Donald Trump to be Secretary of State in the new administration, and will resign from his position in Congress if Trump's nomination is approved. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will choose a replacement for Rubio to continue his senatorial term until 2026, Reuters reported.

Earlier in December, Lara Trump resigned as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), a move that is believed to allow her to consider running for the Senate. "I am deeply honored to serve as co-chair of the RNC in the most high-stakes election and humbled by the support the American people have shown me and the state of Florida," she said.

Governor Ron DeSantis said he expects to announce his choice for a replacement senator in early January 2025. Lara Trump also said there would be an important announcement next month but did not specify what it would be.

Born in 1982, Lara Trump married Donald Trump’s son, Eric Trump, in 2014 and has two children. She has been active in supporting Trump during his presidential campaign, especially during her tenure as RNC Co-Chair. She was elected to this position in March this year with unanimous support.
