According to the working minutes between the working delegation of Lo 25 commune, Thong Nhat district Animal Husbandry and Aquaculture Station, Thong Nhat district Medical Center and the deceased's family, the deceased was Mr. TQT, 46 years old.
Mr. T.'s family has 6 dogs. About 3 months ago, Mr. T. was bitten on the ankle by a small dog, causing bleeding. Although his family advised Mr. T. to get a rabies vaccine, Mr. T. did not get the injection and instead bought medicine to take himself. The dog was beaten to death after biting Mr. T.
Notably, Mr. T.'s family's dogs had not been vaccinated against rabies. In addition to the dog that bit Mr. T. and was beaten to death, about a month later, another dog that had fought with the dog also died.
On May 16, Mr. T. began to show symptoms of fatigue, sweating, difficulty drinking water, frequent thirst, and signs of rabies. He was taken to Thong Nhat District Medical Center, then transferred to Long Khanh Regional General Hospital and Dong Nai General Hospital for treatment, but to no avail.
On the morning of May 17, the family asked to take the patient home, and by noon of the same day, Mr. T. died.
The authorities have asked Mr. T.’s family to lock up, chain, and monitor the remaining dogs. Family members and those who have been in close contact with the dog that bit Mr. T. need to get vaccinated against rabies immediately.
Local veterinary staff will conduct a total herd investigation, an epidemiological investigation throughout Hamlet 2, and disinfect the area around Mr. T's house. At the same time, they will promote rabies vaccination for dogs and cats throughout the entire Lo 25 commune.
The rabies epidemic situation in the province since the beginning of 2025 has been quite complicated. People infected with the disease will certainly die because there is currently no cure for this disease. If people are unfortunately bitten by dogs or cats, they need to urgently get vaccinated against rabies to ensure their own health and safety.
