Speaking to the official Antara news agency, KKP's Director General of Marine Resources and Fisheries Surveillance, Rear Admiral Adin Nurawaluddin said: "We are still in the process of negotiations. Hopefully, the two countries will cooperate to build these 10 surveillance ships."
According to Mr. Nurawaluddin, the Indonesian government plans to build 10 of the above surveillance ships with a requirement to meet the proportion of domestic components (TKDN). “To comply with the TKDN regulation, 4 out of 10 ships will be built in Spain, while the rest will be built in Indonesia,” he said.
Previously, KKP Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono revealed that the ministry had received two surveillance ships, Hakurei Maru and Shirahagi Maru, from the Japanese government.
The Hakurei Maru was delivered to the Southeast Asian country on June 15 this year and renamed Orca 05, while the Shirahagi Maru was delivered in late September and renamed Orca 06.
Both ships are 63.37 meters long, are used by the Japan Fisheries Agency for patrols and can operate at sea for up to 25 days.
In a statement on July 21, Mr. Nurawaluddin announced that the Orca 06 will be used by KKP to improve monitoring of national marine resources in the North Natuna Sea.
