Some popular Garmin smartwatch models have problems

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên02/12/2024

Specifically, some smartwatches such as Garmin's Venu 3, Forerunner 965 and Fenix 7 suddenly crashed when displaying the error message "IQ!" with an orange exclamation mark. This problem has been going on for months and affecting many users.

According to community feedback, the bug occurs randomly without any clear pattern. Some people say the problem occurs after receiving a notification, while others experience it during normal use. Affected smartwatches are typically running software versions 11.16, 20.29, and others.

CIQ watch face source code is causing issues with some Garmin smartwatches

Cause of issue with Garmin smartwatch identified

Many believe the issue may be related to Garmin’s Connect IQ (CIQ) platform, specifically the Storage.setValue() function, which is used to store data. When the smartwatch crashes, it crashes not just one watch face but multiple faces until the device is restarted. However, restarting is not a permanent solution as the issue continues to occur.

"At first I thought it was the battery. The watch would randomly shut off, mostly at night. Recently, when I started an activity, the watch would shut off. I tried many things but still couldn't fix it," one Reddit user shared.

Notably, an app developer reported on Garmin's forums that an app has crashed 400,000 times since August. A Garmin engineer also confirmed that the CIQ watch face source code could be the cause of the problem, but it's still difficult to determine the specific conditions to fix it.

On Reddit, many Garmin smartwatch owners expressed frustration at having to deal with this issue for a long time. One customer said his Fenix 7X Pro Sapphire Solar watch crashed three times this month after receiving the 19.34 update. Another reported that his Fenix 7 watch has been crashing with the "IQ!" error once or twice a month.

Given this situation, users hope Garmin will soon release an update to fix the bug because a smartwatch that keeps crashing is definitely not a good experience for anyone.
