Cunha has scored 25 Premier League goals in the last two seasons. |
According to The Athletic, Matheus Cunha is one of MU's top targets in the upcoming summer transfer window. Wolves' No. 10 plays as a second striker and is highly rated by coach Ruben Amorim.
Amorim has made no secret of his admiration for Cunha, praising the striker's versatility and goalscoring ability. The Portuguese coach was also spotted chatting to Cunha after United and Wolves met at Molineux and again in the tunnel at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Despite facing financial difficulties and possibly missing out on European football next season, MU still easily reached a personal agreement with Matheus Cunha thanks to his reputation. Sources close to the club said that Cunha was very excited about the opportunity to play for MU and become an important part of the plan to revive the team.
However, Cunha's transfer fee could prove to be a stumbling block for the deal. Wolves are willing to sell Cunha after the 2024/25 season, but only if they receive the full £62.5m that would trigger the Brazilian striker's release clause.
After a long period of ineffective spending, MU is looking to tighten its belt. In case they are determined to recruit Cunha, they need to sell some other players to balance their finances. Currently, Sancho, Rashford and Antony have all been pushed by the Red Devils into the transfer market.
In addition to MU, a number of other clubs are also closely following Cunha at this time, including Newcastle, Arsenal and Nottingham. However, MU is still leading the race after approaching Cunha earlier.
