It's been a long time since I woke up early while traveling , quietly preparing to welcome the sunrise like a sacred ritual.
On top of Thoi Loi, stand in the early morning breeze and wait for the magical moment - the Sun rises.
And then, from the distant horizon towards the sea, the first ray of light cut a brilliant line across the still space. The sun rose slowly, dyeing the whole sky pink.
A short moment but enough to calm down the noise inside, enough to remember Ly Son forever - where you can encounter the pristine beauty of the land and sky with all your heart.
How to get to Ly Son?
There are two popular ways to get to Ly Son by air. If you want to combine exploring Da Nang or Hoi An, choose to fly to Da Nang airport, then travel by car to Sa Ky port (Quang Ngai) and continue to the island by speedboat.

If you want to get there faster, fly to Chu Lai airport, then travel about an hour to Sa Ky port.
Then sit on the boat for about 45 minutes, gliding over the blue waves, you will find yourself approaching something very much to look forward to.
When should I come?
April to August is the time when Ly Son is at its most brilliant - clear sky, beautiful sunshine, gentle sea, ideal for exploration.
These days, the sun is just enough to tan the skin but cannot stop people from wanting to go out to enjoy the breeze and watch the sea.
Must-see destinations
Ly Son island district consists of 3 islands: Cu Lao Re (Big Island), An Binh island commune (Small Island) and Mu Cu island, located about 30km from the mainland.
Places to explore on Big Island
Visitors can rent a motorbike for 150,000 VND a day to travel around the Big Island.
Thoi Loi Peak

This is one of the five dormant volcanoes of the island district, with a rocky outcrop overlooking the sea. The mountain is about 170m above sea level and the top of the mountain is a giant basin, with a freshwater lake supplying water to the island district.
Here is a 20m high national flagpole, a favorite destination for many tourists when coming to Ly Son.
Hang Cau

Nestled at the foot of Thoi Loi Mountain on peaceful Ly Son Island, Hang Cau is famous for its rugged cliffs and clear blue water.
The vertical cliffs fully display the wild, majestic beauty of nature that can leave you in awe.
In Hang Cau, visitors can dive to see coral and kayak.
To Vo Gate

One of the must-see destinations when coming to Ly Son is To Vo Gate, located on the east side of the island. In fact, this is a stone gate, over 2m high, located by the sea.
Locals believe that lava erupted from a volcano 2 million years ago, solidified when it met seawater, creating this arch with this special shape. Surrounded by black lava rocks.
The best time to visit To Vo Gate is at sunset.
Hang Pagoda
The temple is over 400 years old, located in a large cave halfway up the mountain near To Vo gate. It worships Buddha and those who reclaimed the island. The large temple yard is surrounded by ancient trees, where the statue of Bodhisattva Guanyin looks out to sea.
Inside the temple are altars carved from natural stalactites and Cham Pa relics. The mountain path leading up to the temple is also one of the beautiful sightseeing spots, with views of garlic fields and peaceful villages.
However, the beautiful beach in front of the temple is full of moss and garbage.
Little Island

The island is also called An Binh island commune, small in area but the scenery and sea water are extremely beautiful.
Small Island is about 3 nautical miles from Big Island, if you go by speedboat it only takes about 15 minutes.
Coming to Be Island, you will feel like you are stepping into a new paradise with only blue sea and golden sunshine. This place is also ideal for watching the sunset.
Visitors can rent a motorbike or take an electric car (VND 50,000/person/trip) to go around Be Island.
What to eat to remember Ly Son longer?
Ly Son is the land of garlic, and also the place with dishes whose flavors cannot be found anywhere else.
Garlic salad has a strong aroma, slightly spicy, crunchy, eat once and remember forever.

Steamed king crab, grilled oysters with scallion oil, boiled elephant snails, sea urchin porridge, grilled devil fish - all have the taste of the sea and rusticity in the way they are prepared.
Big Island is convenient, with many homestay and hotel options. But if you have more time, you should stay a night on Small Island to watch the stars on the sea, listen to the waves lull you to sleep at night and feel light-hearted.
I left Ly Son with tanned skin, a phone full of pictures of the blue sea and a heart full of emotions. But most of all, I brought with me scents: the fishy smell of seaweed, the faint pungent smell of garlic fields... things that no one can wrap up, cannot buy from souvenir shops, can only be kept in memory.
