Mr. Nick Mead, 63 years old, owner of Tanks-a-Lot tank rental company in Helmdon, Northamptonshire, England, was surprised to discover 5 gold bars when checking a Type 69 tank. The tank was bought on Bay for about 30,000 pounds (nearly 930 million VND).

Specifically, in 2017, Mr. Nick and mechanic Todd Chamberlain together dismantled a Type 69 tank for inspection. After finding ammunition inside, he was concerned that the vehicle might have other weapons. Therefore, he decided to film the entire process of dismantling this tank as evidence.

During that process, Mr. Nick and mechanic Todd were surprised to find 5 gold bars in the fuel tank. Each gold bar weighed 5 kg. The total value of this gold is estimated at nearly 70 billion VND.

Experts believe the gold bars may have been hidden in the tank and forgotten. After discovering the valuable gold, Mr. Nick reported it to the police. Two officers from Northamptonshire Police arrived and seized the gold and issued him a receipt.

According to Mr. Nick, the reason for buying the tank was to add to his collection of about 300 military vehicles. Previously, the previous owner of the vehicle, Mr. Joe Hewes (24 years old), had repaired the engine and replaced the chain but did not discover the gold.

When asked if he regretted returning the five gold bars to the authorities, Mr. Nick replied: “Of course I regret it. When we found out, we were laughing and imagining how we would spend the money from selling the gold. My sister wanted to buy a Land Rover, and I thought about buying a Rolls-Royce Phantom and converting it into a pickup truck. Later, I thought the chance of keeping the gold was very slim.”
