How will university admissions be based on SAT scores in 2025?

In 2025, many universities across the country will continue to allow candidates to use the SAT international proficiency certificate for admission. How do schools consider SAT exam results, and what should candidates pay attention to?

SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a popular standardized test, often used for admission to universities in the US, Europe... The test consists of three parts: reading comprehension, language and mathematics, with a total score of 1,600.

SAT Admissions Review from 1,300 points

Hanoi University of Pharmacy requires that candidates applying for admission using SAT certificates in 2025 must have a score of 1,300 or higher to be eligible to apply for admission using this method.

In 2025, Foreign Trade University will continue the admission method using domestic and international competency assessment certificates (divided into two groups of candidates), in which the group of candidates has international competency certificates SAT/ACT/A-level combined with international foreign language certificates.

Application requirements for candidates with SAT scores of 1,380 or higher, or ACT scores of 30 or higher, or A-Level with math scores of A or higher.

Up to now, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy has not announced the 2025 enrollment plan, but since last year, the school has considered SAT exam results for the first time, applied specifically to two medical training majors: medicine and dentistry.

For method 3 - admission based on SAT exam results, the school only considers candidates with SAT scores of 1,340 or higher. The SAT certificate is valid for two years from the application deadline.

Admission requirements: Candidates must have graduated from high school and the results of the 2024 high school graduation exam must have a total score of three exams/subjects in math, chemistry, biology and priority points (if any) equal to or above the minimum score threshold to ensure input quality as prescribed by the school's admissions council.

For this method, the school considers admission based on the principle of using SAT scores for admission. The admissions board will make a list of candidates registering for admission in each major in descending order of admission scores.

Ho Chi Minh City Open University maintains the same admission methods as in 2024, including the admission method for candidates with international certificates such as IB from 26 points or higher, A-Level from C or higher in each subject, or SAT from 1,100 points or higher. The University of Economics (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) also announced that it will accept applications for admission with SAT certificates from 1,100 or higher.

However, the school's SAT score last year was the lowest at 1,460 for economics and the highest at 1,540 for business administration.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology announced that this year it will continue to consider admission based on international certificates. The candidates for admission are candidates with an average GPA of 8.0 or higher in grades 10, 11, and 12; and have at least one of the international certificates SAT, ACT. Although the school does not specify the minimum score for the SAT certificate, it is expected that the standard SAT score (combined with foreign language certificate) to enter the school will not be lower than 1,250 in all majors.

Low target

Vietnam Agricultural Academy plans to directly admit excellent students (at least one semester in high school) with one of the following achievements: winning a provincial-level prize or higher or being in the national competition team with IELTS 6.0, SAT 1,200/1,600 or ACT 25/36 or higher.

If the number of registrations exceeds the quota, the school will consider in order: excellent student awards, IELTS, SAT, ACT scores, and separate exam scores.

Experts say that the current quota for SAT admission methods of universities is very small, so students also need to find out whether their SAT scores are equivalent to the SAT scores admitted to majors at universities in previous years or not to set appropriate wishes.

In addition, universities may have additional requirements such as GPA, academic performance, conduct... or combine SAT test results with high school graduation exam scores.

According to the 2025 enrollment plan announced by universities, with an SAT score of 1,200 or higher, candidates can apply to many schools that consider this admission method. However, candidates should note that the number of schools with quotas for this admission method is not much.

Must be good at English

The SAT is entirely in English. Therefore, English proficiency is essential to do well on the test. A good starting point for SAT test takers is IELTS 6.0 to 6.5. Therefore, students need to practice and equip themselves with good foreign language skills before starting to prepare for the SAT. Students need to research carefully to determine their path to university.

There are schools that consider from 1,200 points.

According to the 2025 enrollment plan of the National Economics University, the school will maintain the same SAT score requirement as in 2024, which is 1,200. Hanoi University of Civil Engineering also plans to directly admit candidates with an international SAT score of 1,200/1,600 or higher or an ACT score of 26/36 or higher.

Candidates wishing to be directly admitted to majors that require drawing as a subject must take the exam at the school and achieve a score of 6 points or higher.

Similarly, the Diplomatic Academy, Banking Academy and Posts and Telecommunications Technology Academy also plan to consider admission for candidates with SAT scores of 1,200 or higher.
