Along with improving the qualityof education , schools in Yen Chau district have enhanced physical education and school sports activities. Thereby, helping students improve their health, develop their physical strength and create a foundation for developing high-performance sports for the education sector of the district and province.

Following the direction of the Department of Education and Training, every year, the Department of Education and Training of Yen Chau district has a document guiding schools to implement physical education work according to each grade, level and region. School units ensure to teach the correct and sufficient content and duration according to the program. Schools have taught 2 physical education periods/week in 2 different sessions and arranged the cultural study session differently; planned and repaired playgrounds, training grounds, built multi-purpose houses and invested in equipment and tools for physical education activities.
Teacher Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Principal of Phieng Khoai Secondary School, said: Because there are students living in boarding schools, the school has diversified the forms and content of physical training and sports suitable for students. Building sports clubs, mobilizing social resources to invest in facilities, including soccer and badminton fields. Every year, organizing competitions, integrating ethnic sports; focusing on organizing extracurricular activities related to physical training.

To improve the quality of physical education in schools, the District Department of Education and Training always creates conditions for physical education teachers to participate in professional training. Currently, 100% of physical education teachers have reached the standard level and above. At the same time, the Department directs schools to encourage teachers to innovate their programs, content and teaching methods. In addition to teaching lessons according to the program distribution, they also teach lessons with optional content, such as shuttlecock, badminton, chess, football, etc. Folk games and ethnic sports are also selected by schools to be put into operation.

At Yen Chau High School, in 2015, the school established a National Sports Club, with the main sports being tug of war, stick pushing, and crossbow shooting; regularly maintaining training and participating in sports competitions organized by the Education sector and other levels. Since the club was established, it has attracted a large number of students to participate. Not only in physical education classes, but most afternoons of the week, after school, students are often present in the school yard to participate in sports training.
Teacher Ha Van Cuong, Head of the Physical Education - Foreign Language Group, Yen Chau High School, said: Up to now, the physical education subject in the school has not attracted a large number of students to participate. The subject group has consulted with the Board of Directors to establish a sports club, with many subjects according to the interests and talents of the students; organize competitions between grades to create a competitive movement, improve health in the whole school. Thanks to promoting physical education and sports activities, the school has participated in competitions at all levels and the competition results often achieve high rankings.
Bui Ngoc Anh, a student of class 11B2, Yen Chau High School, shared: Joining the club in the pole pushing sport, I was enthusiastically instructed and directly trained by the teachers at school; thanks to that, I confidently participated in the competition and won 2 gold medals at the recent Provincial Sports Festival. Currently, I and my friends are actively practicing to achieve the highest results in the upcoming 2023 Provincial Tug of War, Pole Pushing, and Crossbow Shooting Competition.

One of the outstanding activities of the school physical education and sports movement is the Phu Dong Sports Festival at all levels. Every year, Yen Chau district organizes the Phu Dong Sports Festival with 6-8 competitions, attracting more than 600 students and coaches to participate. Through the competition, the quality of the competitions is significantly improved; athletes with high achievements are selected to continue training and participate at the provincial level. Thanks to that, for many consecutive years, Yen Chau district has always ranked first in the Phu Dong Sports Festival delegation at the provincial level and won many high prizes at the Traditional Student Athletics Competition, the Provincial National Defense and Security Education Sports Festival... At the same time, many talented students have been discovered, trained and nurtured to become athletes with high achievements for Son La and national sports. Typically, Quàng Thị Thu Nghĩa was trained from junior high school, then developed into an athlete of the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center; now, she has become the golden girl of Pencak Silat of Vietnamese sports.
Paying attention to and diversifying physical education activities in schools has been actively contributing to the implementation of the goal of innovation in Education and Training, helping students develop comprehensively in both intelligence and physical strength.
