In the digital age, social networks have become a second living space, especially for young people. Social networks are not only a place for communication and entertainment, but also an environment for shaping culture, views and behavior. However, the explosive development of social networks also poses great challenges in terms of behavioral culture. It is extremely necessary for young people to equip themselves with a high "Digital EQ Index" to master this space, turning social networks into a place to spread positive values instead of a "dumping ground" for negativity.

According to statistics, more than 75% of Vietnamese youth currently participate in social networking platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Zalo, YouTube... with an average usage time of 2-4 hours per day. This is an environment that helps young people easily express themselves, learn knowledge and expand relationships.
However, along with the positive aspects, social networks also pose many challenges. Receiving information without selection, being caught up in the "vortex" of like - share - comment, or expressing emotions without control causes many young people to get into arguments, conflicts, and even violations of the law.

Students use social networks frequently, so raising awareness and “digital EQ” is necessary to build a positive and safe cyberspace.

Understanding this, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (Provincial Police) has actively coordinated with local authorities, families and schools to organize propaganda and teaching sessions for students to help them understand the potential risks of social networks. At the same time, equip them with skills and knowledge when using social networks to know how to protect themselves from bad and toxic information, behave civilly in online communication and proactively spread positive values in cyberspace.

To build a safe "shield" for themselves, young people need to understand and comply with legal regulations, know how to keep information confidential, verify sources of information before sharing, and at the same time, form a standard attitude of behavior and respect for others in all online interactions.

Doan Ha Linh (Grade 12 Literature, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted) shared: “When using social networks, I often apply the principle of "Do not respond to anger". When I see negative comments, "sarcastic" or offensive comments, I often choose to stay silent or use the hide/delete comment function instead of confronting. I am also very careful when sharing information, always looking for at least two official sources of information. In addition, I actively follow accounts with positive, constructive content, so that my daily news "filter" is always clean. I think that is a way to protect myself from the toxicity of the online environment."

Officers of the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department disseminate information to union members and youth about information security skills and civilized behavior on social networks.

“Digital EQ” – or emotional intelligence in the digital environment – is the ability to recognize, regulate emotions and respond appropriately when communicating online. This is considered one of the fundamental skills that helps young people behave positively online. According to psychological experts, when using social networks, people are easily influenced by immediate emotions: comparison, competition, judgment or negative reactions to opposing comments. If lacking digital EQ, young people are very vulnerable or unintentionally hurt others. To improve "digital EQ", each individual should learn how to manage time spent online, avoid depending on likes or virtual recognition. In addition, practicing the ability to understand, respect different viewpoints, not hastily judging or spreading negative information is also a manifestation of a responsible behavioral culture.

Senior Lieutenant Lo Thai Phu (Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention) said: “Currently, social networks are developing strongly, especially attracting young people because of their convenience and high connectivity. However, besides the positive aspects, improper use of social networks also has many potential risks from personal information disclosure, online fraud to more serious legal consequences. For young people who are still in a stage of many emotions, easily outbursts, it is even more necessary to equip themselves with digital skills and cultural behavior skills in cyberspace. Every word and action seems harmless, but if they insult or insult others on social networks, it can lead to violations of the law and leave unpredictable consequences.”

Social media culture is not a dry legal code but the self-awareness, respect and empathy of each individual. Young people, as the generation that masters technology, need to clearly understand the power of each click and each status line. Let's turn social media into a powerful tool for connection, learning and development, not a place to vent negativity. By improving "digital EQ" and practicing kindness every day, young people will create a civilized, positive cyberspace, honoring their image and the community.
