Effectiveness of the project to support agricultural machinery for people

Practical, meeting people's needs

Previously, the life of the people in the highland commune of Muong Te was still difficult; land preparation and plowing in agricultural production mainly relied on human power, buffalo and cow power, which took a lot of time and effort, affecting the progress of planting. Based on that reality, the Muong Te commune government has implemented a program to support agricultural production means suitable to local conditions, helping people reduce labor, increase productivity and be more proactive in production.

Mr. Dao Van Tue - Vice Chairman of Muong Te Commune People's Committee said: In 2024, the commune has been allocated a source of funding to support sustainable poverty reduction with a total budget of 882 million VND. Based on the actual needs of the people, we decided to support mini plows and harrows for more than 90 poor and near-poor households. This is the actual need of the people, helping them reduce working days, increase labor productivity, and gradually escape poverty.

A typical example of this support program is Ban Gieng - one of the most disadvantaged villages in Muong Te commune. The whole village currently has 175 households, of which 48 are poor. Thanks to timely support policies, in 2024, 19 households in the village received mini harrows, helping people to be proactive in land preparation and rice planting.

Not only saving labor, putting mini harrows into production also helps people take the initiative in the season, reducing labor costs, especially during times of shortage of young workers because many people work far away.

Mr. Lo Van Chuong - Head of Giang village shared: "Since having the harrow, people have been very excited. Many households support each other, when one household finishes, they help another. Thanks to that, the planting progress is faster, the crops are guaranteed."

Mr. Lu Van Van's family has more than 5,000 square meters of rice land. Previously, the land preparation had to rely on the pulling power of buffaloes and cows, so it took a lot of time. Mr. Van said: "In the past, it took a whole week to plow each crop. After plowing, it was harrowing, hard work but the productivity was not high. Now with the mini harrow, it only takes one session; the land is well prepared, flat, and can be planted immediately. Productivity has increased and I am less tired."

With plows and harrows contributing to increased productivity, people in Muong Te commune have more income to invest in livestock development and improve their lives.

Creating motivation to escape poverty

The agricultural equipment support program not only brings immediate results but also contributes to changing the thinking and production habits of people in the highlands. If in the past people were still afraid of innovation and were used to manual farming, now the use of machinery has become more popular. Households are instructed on how to use and maintain machines, thereby making good use of support resources and promoting investment efficiency.

According to statistics from the People's Committee of Muong Te commune, after nearly a year of implementation, the commune's rice productivity increased by 10-15% compared to before. Many households reduced production costs by 2-3 million VND/crop, had more conditions to invest in new varieties, fertilizers, or expand cultivated areas. In particular, some households also boldly accepted to do plowing and harrowing services for hire, increasing their income, gradually escaping poverty.

It can be seen that supporting plows and mini harrows for poor households in Muong Te is a correct, practical and effective policy. The program not only helps people reduce the labor burden, increase crop productivity but also contributes to changing thinking and working methods - important factors in sustainable poverty reduction.

In the coming time, Muong Te commune will continue to review the needs of the people, propose additional funding sources to support agricultural machinery and plant varieties suitable for climate and soil conditions. At the same time, the commune will coordinate with specialized agencies to open technical training classes, instructing people on how to effectively use machinery and maintain equipment, avoiding abandonment and waste.

Mr. Dao Van Tue - Vice Chairman of Muong Te Commune People's Committee added: "We will continue to replicate the model of supporting agricultural production equipment, combined with livelihood support such as: livestock and commodity farming. The goal is to help people have stable jobs, increase income and gradually escape poverty sustainably".

The initial results in Muong Te commune can confirm that the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction not only has the meaning of material support, but also helps people change their way of thinking, their way of doing, and rise up by their own labor. Up to now, the poverty rate of the commune has decreased to 26.8%, the average income per capita has reached nearly 34 million VND/year.
