Speaking at the meeting, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized that the press and publishing have been identified as sharp ideological weapons of our Party and State. In the current context, this role needs to be strengthened and promoted to create strong determination and consensus within the entire Party, army and people in fulfilling the country's goals by 2030 and vision to 2045 as set out in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.
For the press, publishing and media to perform their roles well, one of the important factors is to improve the quality of human resources in the press, publishing and media, in which the core factor is the quality of training and development of human resources that must be given proper attention, in accordance with the requirements that practice demands.
Reporting on the training of human resources for propaganda, journalism, publishing and communication from 2018 to 2023 of the Academy of Journalism and Communication, comrade Pham Minh Son - Director of the Academy said that the training of human resources for the fields of propaganda, journalism, publishing and communication in the past 5 years of the Academy of Journalism and Communication has made many contributions to all aspects of work in this field for the country. Providing the Party, the State and society with human resources that ensure quantity and quality in this field.
Comrade Pham Minh Son - Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication reported on training and fostering human resources in the fields of propaganda, journalism, publishing and communication in recent times.
The Academy of Journalism and Communication has shaped the training and supply of human resources in the fields of propaganda, journalism, publishing, and communications in Vietnam during the period of innovation and international integration. Through the training of human resources for propaganda, journalism, publishing, and communications, the Academy has built a large number of permanent and part-time lecturers, specialized in the field of training and research, with dedication and responsibility.
Delegates shared opinions at the meeting.
Building, updating and innovating a system of suitable training programs in a modern direction, increasing practice time, in line with the digital transformation trend in journalism and media, ensuring the criteria and standards of the current Ministry of Education and Training .
According to comrade Pham Minh Son, besides the positive contributions, in the work of training human resources for the fields of propaganda, journalism, publishing and communications in recent years, there have also been some limitations and shortcomings, that is, the fields of propaganda, journalism, publishing and communications are specific fields, but up to now there has been no separate policy to invest in developing this specific field.
"In fact, the training of these majors is similar to other majors in the current university training system of Vietnam. Therefore, it is not convenient for the Academy to carry out political tasks and meet the needs of human resources in this field of society.
"The restructuring of training programs to ensure a balance between training scale and existing resources is still slow. The content of some subjects is still heavy on theory, with little practical skills; textbooks and reference materials have not been fully published or updated," Mr. Pham Minh Son stated the current situation.
Some opinions of the leaders of faculties, departments, and divisions of the Academy of Journalism and Communication all show that in reality, the massive training of media majors by private schools is currently creating a virtual hot phenomenon, leading to excess output and unsatisfactory training quality of these institutions. This affects the position and reputation of the profession and other serious and systematic training institutions.
Building a training program framework as a basis for the general education system
Sharing his opinion on the current issue of journalism training, comrade Nguyen Duc Loi - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association said that when journalism students graduate, their political knowledge still has a lot to discuss. There are many students who write good articles, with good sentences, layouts, and articles, but are very weak in terms of political ideology. "We are training revolutionary journalists, but they are not good in terms of politics, we can say they are apolitical - this is very worrying" , comrade Nguyen Duc Loi said.
Comrade Nguyen Duc Loi - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association emphasized the importance of training in political ideology in journalism training in general.
According to comrade Nguyen Duc Loi, currently, the way of doing journalism and the method of making journalism change every day, the form of transmitting and receiving information changes every day, journalists who have worked for a relatively long time really need retraining, so there is a need for short-term courses to update journalism skills and modern journalism methods.
At the same time, in order for press activities to develop effectively, there needs to be better coordination between press agencies and training centers, so that press agencies can propose recommendations in training work and training centers can also better understand the criteria of press agencies, thereby training for the right purpose and right needs. This coordination is currently very limited and very rudimentary.
Comrade Nguyen Duc Loi said that journalism in the new era is multimedia, with converging newsrooms while training centers are mostly specialized models, so it is time to change the structure of the training system.
Many opinions and discussions of the delegates focused on exchanging contents, directions and proposals to continue to strengthen training and fostering of the team doing ideological - cultural work, journalism, publishing and communications for the Party and State.
In addition, with many years of experience as a leader at a press agency, comrade Nguyen Duc Loi pointed out the fact that students from other schools are more likely to be admitted to press agencies, and many journalism students work in other fields. In particular, foreign journalism is currently very weak, major press agencies mainly recruit reporters from foreign language schools, and do not have knowledge of journalism, reporting, or editing. Therefore, it is urgent to consider training programs for foreign reporters.
Concluding the meeting, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia highly appreciated the long tradition of the Academy of Journalism and Communication. The school has been making efforts, constantly innovating and creating, deserving to be one of the key institutions for training and fostering press reporters and publishing editors; a scientific research institution serving the goal of improving the quality of training and fostering cadres, participating in giving opinions on building the Party and State's guidelines and policies in the fields of ideology, journalism, publishing and communication.
According to comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, in the period of innovation, both independence and autonomy but also deep international integration, the concept of journalism has been greatly expanded compared to the traditional journalism of the past. The organization and management of the training and development process is increasingly strict.
In particular, the staff and lecturers are increasingly consolidated, supplemented and developed in both quantity and quality, with strong political will, good professional capacity and pedagogical skills; pure moral qualities and high prestige.
Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia commented: "Only with a standard curriculum framework that meets political mission requirements, practical demands, and is in line with modern trends can we have good human resources that are up to the task." Photo: VNA.
Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia acknowledged the improvement of facilities, conditions to ensure the quality of training and fostering have been increasingly invested in, basically meeting the requirements of training and fostering the team of journalists, publishers and media nationwide in the new context. The application of technology and effective connection between schools and practice have been focused on.
In addition, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized the difficulties and limitations in training in journalism, publishing and media. The Head of the Central Propaganda Department said that we must frankly acknowledge the reality and strive together.
Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia said that training centers need to have a correct understanding of journalism, journalism in the new era, the historical mission of journalism in the new era, thereby setting requirements for training, training programs, and training purposes. It is necessary to continue to innovate training content and programs in a modern direction, closely following reality, keeping up with the trend of modern media. Encourage lecturers and students to promote scientific research to serve training and training work associated with the rich and vibrant practices of the fields of journalism, publishing, and media.
"I propose that the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists Association, the Vietnam Publishing Association, press agencies and publishers participate more in building a training program framework and fostering the press and media publishing team, not only of the Academy of Journalism and Propaganda but also of press and publishing training institutions across the country. Only with a standard program framework that meets the requirements of political tasks, practical requirements, and is in line with modern trends can we have good human resources that are up to the task," emphasized comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia.
The Head of the Central Propaganda Department also requested that in the coming time, it is necessary to strengthen the organization and management of training and fostering in a modern direction. Training must serve the goal of students after graduation meeting job requirements and the ability to find jobs suitable to their training major.
Pay more attention to the application of active teaching methods, encourage lecturers to use modern teaching equipment and facilities to contribute to improving the quality of teaching and learning. Diversify types of testing and assessment to ensure accuracy and objectivity, creating conditions for students to study and exchange with foreign experts.
At the same time, strengthen the connection between the Academy and the press and media agencies, create a practical learning environment and job opportunities for students. Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia also emphasized the priority of creating a source of training journalism human resources for disadvantaged, remote and mountainous areas.
