Interfax news agency on April 24 quoted a press release from the Russian Pacific Fleet saying that the Russian Admiral Tributs ship will conduct exercises in the Sea of Japan, including destroying simulated enemy targets.
However, the announcement did not specify the time of the exercise.
"In the Sea of Japan, the Admiral Tributs will conduct an anti-submarine exercise in accordance with the fleet's combat training plan," the press release said.
As part of the exercise, the crew of the destroyer will coordinate with the Ka-27PL anti-submarine helicopter to search for a simulated enemy submarine and destroy it with rocket-propelled bombs and anti-submarine torpedoes. The ship will also undertake combat training missions with torpedoes.
The Admiral Tributs is a Udaloy-class heavy anti-submarine destroyer, named after Admiral Vladimir Filippovich Tributs, a talented Soviet naval commander during World War II.
She was launched in 1983, served in the Russian Pacific Fleet since 1985 and soon after embarked on her first long-distance voyage escorting Soviet ships in the Persian Gulf.
In 2010, the Admiral Tributs participated in a joint exercise between the Russian Navy and the Japanese Navy to search and rescue and assist ships in distress.
