Dong Thap Construction Industry: Focus on repairing and restoring the traffic system after storms

In recent times, in Dong Thap province, frequent and prolonged heavy rains combined with high tides have seriously affected the road traffic infrastructure. Many roads are deeply flooded and drain slowly; in addition, many roads have exceeded their operating period and have not been invested in building a longitudinal drainage system, causing water to accumulate on the roadbed and surface, leading to rapid deterioration, causing many sections of the road to be deformed, damaged, and have potholes.

Faced with the damaged state of provincial road 852B, Dong Thap Department of Construction directed Dong Thap Construction Maintenance Center to deploy timely remedial measures.

Faced with the above situation, the Department of Construction has focused on directing management and maintenance units to implement key tasks to promptly detect arising damages and carry out maintenance, patching, and repairs in an effort to basically ensure smooth traffic.

In particular, the industry strengthens road inspection work to record and grasp the actual situation; review and monitor sections and areas that are often flooded, deeply flooded, have landslides, and are severely damaged on the roads.

At the same time, implement curb removal to create natural drainage, temporarily fill in damaged low-lying areas, potholes; immediately organize the implementation of complete treatment and repair to ensure technical requirements as soon as the weather conditions are favorable; provide information and install warning signs; arrange barriers and guide people in potentially dangerous areas.

In addition, it is necessary to step up propaganda work to the people to ensure traffic safety in complicated conditions of heavy rain and high tides; check, warn, and temporarily repair flooded areas and damaged roads that pose potential risks to traffic safety; strengthen management and ensure traffic safety at ferry terminals and river crossings.

According to the Department of Construction of Dong Thap, in the direction of long-term repair, the Department of Construction continues to review and develop a plan for the list of repairs of traffic works for the coming time to report and propose to the competent authority to arrange capital for investment in new construction or upgrading and renovation combined with the addition of drainage systems along sections of roads that are often congested and flooded with the aim of maintaining and improving the life of road works, ensuring smooth, convenient and safe traffic.

In addition, the Department of Construction also connects with media agencies to support the transmission of accurate and timely information about the damage situation and the remedial measures being implemented for people to know and share and sympathize.

Along with that, we need to increase warning bulletins for damaged, flooded, landslide-prone sections of roads... that are potentially dangerous, helping people to be proactive when participating in traffic, contributing to ensuring people's safety in weather conditions that are still in a complicated stage of development.

For the People's Committees of communes and wards, the Department of Construction continues to coordinate in implementing the contents according to Official Dispatch No. 3650/SXD KCHTXD dated October 30, 2025 of the Department of Construction; strengthen inspection, warning and temporary repair of flooded, landslide and damaged areas to ensure smooth and safe traffic; strengthen information and propaganda work at the local level and promptly report when incidents causing traffic insecurity arise for timely coordination and handling.

At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen propaganda and mobilization work for people, organizations and individuals to protect traffic infrastructure, not to encroach on road land, not to carry out illegal filling and connection activities that affect road surface drainage... causing damage to road infrastructure.

Dong Thap Construction Maintenance Center (under the Department of Construction) has leveled provincial road 852B, filled in low-lying areas, and basically leveled the road surface to ensure smoother and safer traffic.
