NDO - After breast augmentation filler injection, a 19-year-old female patient fainted and was taken to the hospital for emergency care.

Complications due to improper filler injection

A 19-year-old female patient from Hoa Binh province experienced significant breast shrinkage after giving birth to her first child. Believing in the advertisements of non-surgical breast augmentation spas, the patient was advised to inject fillers into her breasts. After the injection, she began to experience symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, and then chills.

She was rushed to a hospital and had a brain scan to check for any complications in the brain, but fortunately no abnormalities were found. However, the patient still experienced pain and swelling in her chest, which made her very worried. Occasionally, she also experienced hot flashes and fever.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hong Ha, Head of the Department of Maxillofacial-Plastic-Aesthetic Surgery, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, said that this patient is only 19 years old and still wants to have children in the future, but due to infection from the filler, if she has to have both breasts removed, this is a very serious and painful complication for the woman.

This poses a difficult question for plastic surgeons: How to remove as much of this infected filler from the woman's body as possible without affecting her function and ability to raise children with the most aesthetic surgical approach.

Therefore, doctors have used modern endoscopic surgery combined with multi-plane color ultrasound system in cesarean section to remove most of the lumpy fillers from the patient's chest, with only a small incision, optimal in terms of aesthetics and minimal impact on the mammary glands. Doctors have applied advanced techniques to retain the function of the mammary glands, helping patients to continue to be mothers and produce milk for their children in the future.

Patients are given ultrasound and X-rays to determine the exact location of the fillers in the body, from which doctors can determine whether the fillers are located under the mammary glands, the pectoralis major muscle or in other locations. After determining the exact locations, doctors continue to use ultrasound to check whether the fillers are connected or circulating.

The surgery is performed through a small incision under the armpit, in the natural crease of the armpit to avoid scarring. The doctor inserts an endoscope under the mammary gland, combined with ultrasound to accurately identify the filler deposits. After removing the filler, the area is washed several times to ensure that there are no foreign substances left, while still keeping the breast tissue and chest wall intact, avoiding damage to these tissues and not endangering the patient's health.

With this technique, doctors can safely remove up to 90-95% of filler, helping patients recover quickly and maintain breast function.

One week after the patient's breast revision surgery, the ultrasound results showed that the fillers had been almost completely removed from the breasts. The incision was small, dry, only a few centimeters long, and the function of the mammary glands was preserved almost to the maximum.

Dangerous complications from filler injections

Incorrect, incorrect and unauthorized filler injections are becoming an increasingly serious problem in the beauty trend, especially near Tet when many people seek quick beauty methods without paying attention to the regulations of the Ministry of Health . This has led to unfortunate consequences for the patient's health.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hong Ha, Head of the Department of Maxillofacial-Plastic-Aesthetic Surgery, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital said: Filler injection, also known as breast filler injection, is an unauthorized act according to regulations of the Ministry of Health .

In the past, some people injected liquid silicone into their breasts, but this substance has long been banned. Currently, some smuggled and unlicensed products such as artificial fat are used for injection into the body. These substances are of unknown origin and unsafe, especially when injected into the mammary gland, a tissue that produces milk and has a high risk of causing cancer.

Injecting unknown substances into the chest can cause many dangerous complications. Immediately, a blood vessel blockage can occur, the injected substance can travel to the brain or lungs and cause a blockage in these organs.

Although rare, this is very dangerous and can be life-threatening. In addition, injecting substances of unknown origin at unlicensed facilities also increases the risk of infection. Many patients after injecting fillers at spas of unknown origin often have fever, chills, infection or pus discharge from the injection site.

Associate Professor Ha said that in some cases, the infection can last and cause the breast to swell, become painful, develop lumps or even pus through fistulas. These conditions can be long-lasting and very difficult to treat. Many patients have to go to the hospital for long-term treatment, even having to have the entire breast removed.

Doctors recommend that before deciding to increase breast size, you should learn carefully about safe and effective methods. Methods recognized by the Ministry of Health and world medicine include breast augmentation by surgery, especially the method of placing endoscopic breast implants through the armpit.

This is a method that has been proven safe and effective in improving breast shape, thanks to advanced endoscopic techniques, patients will have very little pain after surgery, recover quickly with aesthetic results without any scars or blemishes on the breasts.
