First day of auction of car, motorbike and scooter license plates: Successfully auctioned 904 plates, collected nearly 57.2 billion VND

There is a motorcycle license plate that won the auction for 158 million VND, that is license plate 69AM-199.99 of Ca Mau province, this license plate was bid for more than 107 million VND after just over 15 minutes on the auction floor.

According to information from the Traffic Police Department on April 8, the first day of auctioning license plates for motorbikes and mopeds, out of a total of 60,000 license plates for cars, motorbikes and mopeds put up for auction on April 8, 908 plates were registered by customers, the number of successfully auctioned plates was 904 plates; the total value of the successfully auctioned assets was nearly 57.2 billion VND.

Of these, 10,000 license plates were listed, 432 were registered, and 430 were successfully auctioned. The total value of the successfully auctioned assets was over 40.23 billion VND.

For motorbikes and scooters, there are 50 thousand listed plates, 476 of which have been registered; 474 of which have been successfully auctioned, with the total value of the successfully auctioned assets being 16.93 billion VND.

Notably, there was a motorcycle license plate that won the auction for 158 million VND. That was the license plate 69AM-199.99 of Ca Mau province. This license plate was bid for more than 107 million VND after just over 15 minutes on the auction floor.

Some other motorcycle license plates with high auction winning prices are license plate 50AA-788.88 (belonging to Ho Chi Minh City number range) with price of 122 million VND, 29AC-666.68 (belonging to Hanoi number range) with price of 116 million VND.

This is the 6th license plate auction organized by Vietnam Joint Stock Auction Company and the first time it has organized an auction of motorcycle license plates. Currently, a list of more than 1.55 million motorcycle license plates has been posted for people to choose from.

In the following days, there will be "five-of-a-kind" and "four-of-a-kind" motorbike license plates auctioned such as: 50AA-999.99; 50AA-666.66; 50AA-777.77; 29AC-222.22... The starting price for car license plates to be auctioned is 40 million VND, and for motorbike license plates is 5 million VND.

Previously, the Ministry of Public Security coordinated to organize 272 auction days with more than 2 million license plates being auctioned. There were 51,218 plates successfully auctioned, the total value of auctioned assets reached nearly 5,000 billion VND. The total amount of money that the winning bidders paid was nearly 4,500 billion VND.

According to the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, the person who wins the license plate auction is obliged to pay the full amount within 30 days from the date of announcement of the results. The auction winning amount does not include the registration and license plate issuance fees.

After the above deadline, if the auction winner does not pay or does not pay enough money, the license plate will be auctioned again or transferred to the vehicle registration and management system. The auction winner will not be refunded the deposit, the money paid and will not be allowed to participate in the license plate auction for 12 months.

The auction winner must complete the vehicle registration procedure to attach the license plate within 12 months, and in case of force majeure, it can be extended by 6 months. After this period, the license plate will be auctioned again or transferred to the registration system and the amount paid will not be refunded.

Pursuant to the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, the Government has issued Decree No. 156/2024/ND-CP regulating the auction of vehicle license plates, effective from January 1, 2025.

The legalization of regulations on vehicle license plate auctions contributes to the effective exploitation of public assets, creates revenue for the budget and ensures the public and transparent issuance of vehicle license plates.
