Notably, this is the 4th consecutive gold medal of the Vietnamese women's team, a record in the SEA Games, and the 8th gold medal of Vietnamese women's football.
Although he and his students have just created a historic milestone, coach Mai Duc Chung has almost no time to enjoy the victory.
Immediately after the match, the coach from Ha Tay province posted on his personal Facebook page: "Very happy but we do not forget the difficult task at the World Cup finals.
Thanks to the enthusiastic support of the fans and we have to try harder with the desire to surpass the threshold".
Back to the final match, Mr. Chung praised Thanh Nha's performance.
“I know when to replace Thanh Nha, Van Su or Thuy Trang. Thanh Nha has shown her abilities, such as running fast and kicking well. Nha’s goal was probably the most beautiful goal of SEA Games 32,” said Mr. Chung.
Sharing more about the championship journey, the former Binh Duong coach said: “We entered the tournament not knowing if we could win the gold medal or not.
The team had a short preparation time. The Vietnamese women's team suffered a lot of injuries, so I had to promote many young players to play, but we still won gloriously."
“I am very happy that the women's team continued to successfully defend the gold medal. Today the team played very well and with the right tactics.
This is no small achievement. The 32nd SEA Games is an extremely difficult tournament for us,” continued the head coach of the Vietnamese women's team.
Mr. Chung revealed that after the SEA Games, he and his students will rest for a week and then return to Europe for training.
The Vietnamese women's team will travel to Poland to play a friendly match with the Polish U23 team on June 9, then to Germany to play a friendly match with the national women's team on June 24. After that, the team will travel to New Zealand to compete in the Women's World Cup.
“The upcoming European training trip is important, helping the Vietnamese women's team learn and gain experience.
Some of the team's young players played well at this SEA Games, I will continue to call more for the World Cup, including some U20 players," said Mr. Chung.
