According to a VNA reporter in Phnom Penh, on the morning of June 3, before the official opening ceremony of the 12th Southeast Asian Games for the Disabled (ASEAN Para Games 12), at Morodok Techo National Stadium and Royal University of Phnom Penh in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh, the Vietnamese sports delegation competed in the first two events: badminton and chess.

Similar to the 32nd SEA Games, some of the events in the 12th ASEAN Para Games took place early before the opening ceremony, including badminton and chess. On June 3, the men's badminton team events kicked off at the Morodok Techo National Stadium, while the men's and women's rapid chess events began at the Royal University of Phnom Penh.
In badminton, the Vietnamese disabled athletes competed in the men's standing team event with athletes from Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. In the first semi-final, athletes Po Loong Loc, Nguyen Van Thuong and Pham Van Toi of the Vietnamese team played their best, keeping up with strong opponents from Indonesia, but the victory belonged to the Indonesian athletes. In the bronze medal match, luck continued to be on the side of athletes Ta Truc, Pham Van Toi and Trinh Anh Tuan when they did not win against the Thai team, despite the intense match.
Speaking to VNA reporters, Mr. Nguyen Huy - Head Coach of the Vietnam badminton team expressed his pride in leading the badminton team to participate in the 12th ASEAN Para Games. Coach Nguyen Huy said that regarding the preparation work, the Vietnamese sports delegation has been interested and created conditions for the athletes to compete with the best conditions and spirit. According to Coach Nguyen Huy, the athletes have a lot of potential and with many competitions ahead, the team is focused on striving to achieve good results, especially in expected events such as wheelchair badminton, badminton singles and doubles.
At the end of the standing men's badminton team events, Indonesia won the gold medal, while Malaysia won the silver medal and Thailand won the bronze medal. In the wheelchair men's badminton team events, Thailand won the gold medal with a victory over the Malaysian team after a dramatic competition between the two sides.
After the 32nd SEA Games, the host country Cambodia hopes to continue to successfully host the major regional tournament. The 12th ASEAN Para Games will take place from June 3-9 with 14 sports competing.
The Vietnamese disabled sports delegation attended the 12th ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia with 159 members, including 122 athletes (including 2 guide athletes) competing in 8 events of the games: athletics, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo and boccia.
