Nghe An province will build a 3.1 trillion VND waste-to-energy plant.

VnExpressVnExpress04/03/2024

The waste-to-energy plant project, with a total investment of 3,100 billion VND, is expected to be operational in 2027, processing 1,500 tons of waste per day.

The project was approved by the Standing Committee of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee at the end of February. The waste incineration plant is invested and built by Galax Joint Stock Company at the Nghi Yen Solid Waste Complex, Nghi Loc district.

Upon completion, the plant will process solid waste from households, industries, general and hazardous waste generated in Vinh City, Cua Lo town, and the districts of Nghi Loc, Hung Nguyen, and Dien Chau.

The project is divided into two phases. Phase one has a total investment of VND 2,500 billion, is expected to be operational in Q4/2027, with a processing capacity of 1,000 tons of municipal solid waste and 3 tons of medical waste per day, and a power generation capacity of 20 MW.

Phase two, with a total investment of VND 600 billion, is expected to be operational in Q4/2030, processing 500 tons of municipal solid waste, recycling 6 tons of FE plastic and 3 tons of DO oil per day, and generating 10 MW of electricity.

The project utilizes German mechanical grate furnace technology, combined with power generation. This technology is currently being used in several waste-to-energy plants in Vietnam because it is not selective about the type and size of waste.

Nghe An currently lacks a waste-to-energy plant. In 2023, the amount of solid household waste generated in the province was over 1,700 tons per day, but only over 1,400 tons were collected, reaching only 81%. Many districts are experiencing waste overload, such as Quy Hop, Que Phong, and Con Cuong...

According to the Environmental Pollution Control Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment , Vietnam has 15 waste-to-energy plants that have been and are being built. The largest of these is the Soc Son Waste-to-Energy Plant in Hanoi, with a capacity of 4,000 tons/day, a total investment of 7,000 billion VND, and operational since July 2022.
