Farmers go to the fields to do irrigation
Being present at Bui Bui hamlet, Van Tu commune on the morning of October 16, the first day of the campaign, one could clearly feel the enthusiasm of the people in the irrigation movement. Immediately after the launching ceremony, hundreds of people and mass organizations in the commune quickly spread out to the fields, bringing with them tools such as hoes, shovels, improved vehicles... to dredge, clear canals, and build banks on the banks of the fields.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - a resident of Bui Bui hamlet, who is participating in irrigation with a group of farmers, shared: “My family cultivates more than 4 sao of rice fields. Without a good irrigation system, it is difficult to ensure water for the rice plants. Therefore, since the commune launched the campaign, everyone in the hamlet has actively participated, no one is left out. We take the initiative to do it for our own benefit.”

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan - Chairman of Van Tu Commune People's Committee, the whole commune has over 1,000 hectares of agricultural land, mainly rice. Due to the impact of many floods in the past time, the canal system has been seriously silted, many canals have been damaged, the flow has been obstructed, directly affecting irrigation for production. Clearly identifying the key role of the internal irrigation system, the commune has developed a specific plan, synchronously mobilizing forces to carry out this year's irrigation campaign.
Van Tu commune will maintain 300 - 400 workers/day to participate in irrigation work. The works being implemented include: collecting duckweed, dredging Bau Chen and Vu Giang drainage canals; clearing internal canals in 45 hamlets; repairing water pipes and irrigation works damaged after storms and floods; building new ones, reinforcing regional and field banks... The implementation period lasts until December 31, 2025. The estimated volume of work includes: dredging 4,044 m³ of mud and soil, building 2,025 m³ of regional banks, solidifying 2.3 km of canals and pouring 4,049 m³ of concrete for internal traffic.

Not only Van Tu, the movement to build irrigation works is also being widely deployed in many other localities in the province. In Hung Chau commune, on the morning of October 16, the commune mobilized more than 300 workers in hamlets such as Chau Lam, Chau Yen, Chau Ha... to dredge irrigation canals and clean internal roads, clear weeds, and handle flow blockages. According to the commune leaders, this is one of the key activities, helping to restore the irrigation system after the impact of floods and prepare well for the next crop.
In Hoa Quan commune, the atmosphere of the campaign is also very urgent. The representative of the People's Committee of the commune said that from October 12 to now, the commune has mobilized over 2,000 people to participate in cleaning, weeding, and dredging the silted canal system. Up to now, the whole commune has cleared more than 300 m³ of mud and soil, clearing more than 20 km along rural and intra-field roads. In addition, the commune is also continuing to dredging main canals such as Sung Bo, Ho Tre, Cau Cau, Thanh Thinh canals with a total estimated volume of over 5,000 m³ of mud and soil. At the same time, the commune is repairing water intake culverts that have been degraded after storms and floods, and repairing regional and field banks to reinforce the water supply system for the 2026 spring crop.

The whole people joined forces to do irrigation and improve the fields.
According to the representative of the Nghe An Province Irrigation Department, 2025 is forecasted to be a year with complex and extreme weather and climate. Since June, the province has recorded many storms causing great damage to irrigation infrastructure, affecting tens of thousands of hectares of agricultural production. In this situation, the Provincial People's Committee has strongly directed localities to coordinate with Irrigation LLCs to seriously deploy the campaign to mobilize the entire population to do irrigation in the fields.
Specifically, localities need to organize dredging and repairing drainage ditches and drainage shafts in communes, wards and residential groups to ensure drainage, prevent flooding and maintain environmental sanitation. At the same time, it is necessary to check and thoroughly handle blocked water flows caused by optical cables, electric poles and underground works. The Provincial People's Committee also assigned specific targets to each locality, requiring the launch of a movement for the entire population to participate in dredging, repairing and renovating level 2 and level 3 irrigation systems, combined with field improvement.

In addition, the province also continues to direct the implementation of the canal consolidation program, focusing on intra-field canals to save water and increase the efficiency of diversion. Encourage the development of small irrigation systems to irrigate dry crops, expand the network of small pumps, reservoirs, wells... to contribute to stabilizing water sources for production and daily life.
This year's irrigation campaign not only aims to ensure production for the 2026 winter-spring crop but is also a long-term activity in building new rural areas, enhancing people's initiative in production and disaster response. At the end of the campaign, the Provincial People's Committee requested localities to organize evaluation, summary, and commend collectives and individuals who performed well; at the same time, criticize, remind, and handle units that did not perform seriously and in a formal manner.

The movement of the entire people to build irrigation works in Nghe An continues to be a clear demonstration of the spirit of solidarity, initiative and creativity in agricultural production of local people. Dredged canals, reinforced banks, concreted roads in the fields... are the solid foundation for a successful crop and a sustainable agricultural development./.
