In the emotional atmosphere of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) and the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025), the "Storytelling Artifacts" room displaying the theme "Uncle Ho with the South - The South with Uncle Ho" was officially launched from May 16 in the premises of the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace - where he lived and worked for 15 years.

In the poem “Uncle Ho”, poet To Huu has deeply and movingly summarized Uncle Ho’s feelings for the South and the South’s feelings for Uncle Ho: “Uncle Ho misses the South, misses home/The South longs for Uncle Ho, misses father”. These two poignant verses were chosen to name the two corresponding parts of the exhibition space, as a way to evoke deep emotions in each person’s heart right from the first steps.

With 45 valuable documents and artifacts, including more than 20 manuscripts, photos, impressions and about 20 original documents and artifacts, the exhibition space brings viewers into a flow of memories that vividly recreates the deep attachment between President Ho Chi Minh and his beloved South. After the historic Dien Bien Phu victory in 1954, peace was restored in the North, but he was never at ease, the desire to liberate the South and unify the country became the unshakable top goal...

Not only introducing valuable documents and artifacts, the exhibition also brings stories imbued with affection between Uncle Ho and the South - the land that always ached in his heart. Exploring the first part of the exhibition space, one can clearly feel a passionate heart that has never stopped missing the South. From the draft of President Ho Chi Minh's letter to soldiers and people in the South and the South Central region in 1945, to the audio recording of him speaking at the Special Political Conference in 1964; from the wool blanket that Uncle gave to Mr. Nguyen Van Manh - a veteran revolutionary from Binh Chanh, Ho Chi Minh City, to the last New Year's poem he left behind... Each document and artifact is a silent "witness" to the love and nostalgia for the southern land that was always in Uncle Ho's heart.

It was hard to contain my emotions when I came across the draft of President Ho Chi Minh’s letter to General Secretary Le Duan on March 10, 1968, 18 months before his passing, with the words “Absolutely confidential” written in red ink. In the letter, Uncle Ho reiterated comrade Le Duan’s advice on Christmas 1967 about visiting the South after the day of complete victory. He agreed, but wanted to change the time from after to before, that is, to visit when the cadres and soldiers were preparing for a new offensive… Unfortunately, his health was getting weaker and weaker, while the war situation in the South was getting more and more fierce, so the intention to visit the people and soldiers in the South did not come true…

However, it is strange that many southern compatriots, although they have never met Uncle Ho, or even seen his portrait, have devoted their entire lives to following him, with many cherished memories and expectations. Visiting the second part of the exhibition space, looking at the simple but affectionate gifts sent to Uncle Ho, such as a small handful of soil from a southern mother sent to the assembled soldiers to present to President Ho Chi Minh; the rectangular bag of Tam's mother in My Chanh, Binh Dinh or the cigarette case made from a broken microphone case by comrade Nguyen Duc Chanh, an announcer at the Southern Radio Station, ... we can feel more deeply the respect, love and gratitude that the southern compatriots and soldiers have for Uncle Ho.

Deputy Director of the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace Nguyen Van Duong said that one of the notable points of the exhibition space is the appearance of artifacts introduced for the first time. Typical examples include the bottle of cajuput oil that the Party Committee and people of Vinh Thuy commune, Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province respectfully presented to Uncle Ho, or the badge that Uncle Ho presented to the Ngu Thuy female artillery company, Quang Binh province in 1968. In particular, we must mention the photo of our soldiers standing on both sides of the tomb of Vice President Nguyen Sinh Sac in Cao Lanh city, Dong Thap province.

According to comrade Vu Ky - Uncle Ho's secretary, this is the photo that accompanied the letter sent to President Ho Chi Minh in the package of official documents from the South sent to the Presidential Palace Office in 1954. The photo is small, the water is blurred but the words engraved on the tombstone can still be clearly seen. In 1958, when moving to live and work at the Stilt House, Uncle Ho put the photo in a box inlaid with printed cards, placed solemnly on the highest shelf of the office... It can be seen that, for Uncle Ho, the South is not only a place where his blood relatives are still divided, but also the place where his father, Mr. Pho Bang Nguyen Sinh Sac, rests, waiting for him to visit.

To create a space for the thematic exhibition “Uncle Ho with the South - The South with Uncle Ho”, the staff of the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace spent more than two months carefully selecting documents and artifacts from the Relic Site, the National History Museum, the family of General Vo Nguyen Giap, the Nguyen Chi Thanh Museum and many other sources. Not only are they relics of the past, each document and artifact also contains meaningful, moving stories about the feelings of Uncle Ho and the South.

The value of the artifacts is promoted and spread to help viewers gain more understanding and deeper feelings about Uncle Ho - a man full of compassion, always devoting his whole heart to the country and people; and arousing pride, national solidarity, determination to build and protect the country to become more civilized and prosperous as President Ho Chi Minh always wished.
