Arriving at the exam site half an hour early to review her knowledge before taking the History and Geography exams, contestant Kim Hien could not hide her nervousness. However, she still kept a gentle smile on her lips because the words of encouragement from colleagues, friends and the audience gave her more confidence and determination.
Up to now, she has been involved in the professional stage for nearly 25 years. Born in the countryside of Vien An, Ngoc Hien (now Dat Mui Moi commune), she had to put aside her dream of studying early because of her family's difficult circumstances. However, it was the years of growing up in the spotlight that helped her realize that artists of the new era must be both talented and professional, talent must go hand in hand with knowledge, so she decided to register for a cultural supplementary course.
However, Kim Hien's education path was always interrupted halfway for many reasons, the most important of which was trying to fulfill her role as a woman in the family: daughter-in-law to her mother-in-law who had been seriously ill for many years, taking care of the children, and being a solid supporter for her partner - Artist Nhat Phuong. After three times of determination to continue studying (twice for cultural supplementary courses and once for vocational intermediate classes), she was forced to stop. Kim Hien thought: "I am not destined for the path of education, so I will just focus on my career and wholeheartedly take care of my small family."
Then at the end of 2022, tragedy struck when artist Nhat Phuong suddenly passed away, the breadwinner of the family was gone, everything seemed to collapse under her feet. From loss and grief, she determined to continue studying, using letters as motivation to rise up; at the same time, being an example for her two young children.
After many years of interruption in her studies, she forgot a lot of her basic knowledge. She returned to grade 11 when she was almost 40 years old, and had to work at the office, taking care of her children alone... The self-study and exam review schedule was arranged to leave her little free time during the day. Sometimes, Kim Hien wanted to give up, but thanks to the encouragement of her colleagues and the wholehearted help of her teachers and friends at the Provincial ContinuingEducation Center, she was given the strength to stick with her studies until the day of the high school graduation exam this year.
After the first day of the exam, Kim Hien thought that the graduation exam for Literature was very good and relevant, but Math was a big challenge for candidates like her. Therefore, for the Social Science exam: History - Geography - Civic Education, she studied harder in the hope of achieving a relatively good score and always hoped to "pass" graduation, holding a high school diploma in hand to continue studying at a higher level in the future.
“ To be able to reconnect my academic path to the present is a journey of trying to overcome myself. At an old age, my ability to absorb knowledge is no longer quick, I only know how to use diligence and hard work to compensate. I sincerely thank the teachers of the Center for always encouraging and supporting me and students with special circumstances. As an artist, I aspire to contribute more. After graduating, I will continue to study at a higher level, equip myself with more knowledge to be worthy of being an artist of the new era - that is also my way of thanking the audience who have loved me over the years", contestant Kim Hien emotionally expressed. |
