The FBI identified the suspect as Crooks, who lives in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, about 35 miles south of Trump’s rally. Crooks was killed by Secret Service agents at the scene.

According to CNN citing records from the US Federal Election Commission, this suspect is from Bethel Park County (Pennsylvania) and is a Republican voter, but donated a small amount of money to a group affiliated with the Democratic Party on January 20, 2021. This is the inauguration day of US President Joe Biden.
Crooks has no criminal record and received a $500 “star award” from the National Mathematics and Science Initiative while attending Bethel Park High School in 2022.
Responding to CNN, Crooks' father, Matthew Crooks, said the family was trying to understand "the horror that is happening," and emphasized that he would explain to law enforcement before he would provide any information about his son.
The FBI has deployed agents, evidence collection teams and personnel from across the United States to Butler City to assist the Secret Service in the investigation.
Previously, Kevin Rojek, special agent in charge of the FBI office in Pittsburgh, said he was surprised that the gunman was able to fire multiple shots at former President Trump's campaign without the security team knowing where he was.
"We're still looking at the security apparatus that the Secret Service has put in place to determine what likely happened," he added. "There's going to be a long investigation into exactly what happened and how that individual got to the location, what kind of weapon the shooter had. All of that will take days, weeks and months of investigation."
