The Ministry of Transport has just issued an official dispatch responding to the proposal of the Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee on investing in the Western North-South Expressway section passing through this province.

According to the Ministry of Transport , in the Road Network Planning for the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2050, the North - South Expressway in the West through Kon Tum province includes the Ngoc Hoi (Kon Tum) - Pleiku (Gia Lai) section, 90km long, with a scale of 6 lanes, with investment progress before 2030.
According to Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW of the Politburo on socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Central Highlands region until 2030, with a vision to 2045, research on investment in the Western North-South expressway (Ngoc Hoi - Pleiku, Pleiku - Buon Ma Thuot, Buon Ma Thuot - Gia Nghia).
In addition, in the appendix attached to Resolution No. 81/2023/QH15 of the National Assembly on the National Master Plan for the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2050, the Western North - South Expressway is divided into phases for implementation in the 2031 - 2050 period.
Regarding the proposal of the Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee, the Ministry of Transport said that it is necessary to study and invest in the Ngoc Hoi - Pleiku expressway section in the 2021 - 2030 period to synchronously connect national highway and expressway projects that have been, are being and will be implemented to create a link between the Central Highlands region and the Central Coast and the Southeast.
To have a basis for investment research, in the process of adjusting and updating the Road Network Planning according to the National Master Plan, the Ministry of Transport will propose that competent authorities continue to have the mechanism "For investment planning projects after 2030, in case localities have investment needs to serve socio-economic development and mobilize resources, report to the Prime Minister for early investment approval".
Previously, the Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee sent a document requesting the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport to consider and arrange funding to invest in the Ngoc Hoi - Kon Tum - Pleiku expressway in the 2021 - 2030 period according to approved plans.
Citing the reason for the above proposal, Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee said that Kon Tum is located in a strategic position at the Indochina crossroads, the core area of the Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia development triangle.
Kon Tum province has an important geopolitical and geo-economic position on the East-West corridor, and is the gateway for Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar to reach seaports in the Central and Southeast coastal regions of Vietnam.
In particular, the Western North-South Expressway (Ngoc Hoi - Kon Tum - Pleiku section) ensures connectivity between provinces in the region, linking the Central Highlands and coastal regions of the Central and Southeast regions; conveniently connecting with international border gates to Laos and Cambodia, enhancing international connectivity within the framework of the Mekong Sub-region Cooperation, the Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia development triangle area.
The project also promotes international trade, import and export of goods and trade in services connecting the East-West economic corridor of the region; promotes the development of export of goods and agricultural products of Kon Tum province in particular and the Central Highlands in general.
