The project to upgrade and expand Highway 70, 4.95km long, approved by the Hanoi People's Committee in Decision 1438/QD-UBND dated March 15, 2024, is currently being urgently implemented. The project has a total investment of more than VND 3,377 billion, with the People's Committee of Tay Mo Ward as the investor. The route passes through Tay Mo and Xuan Phuong wards and Son Dong commune.

The road surface of this traffic route is narrow and often has large vehicles passing through.

Especially during rush hour, traffic on this route becomes chaotic. Motorcyclists have to struggle to weave between long lines of cars.

On both sides of the road are densely populated residential areas. Land clearance for the project to widen this route has also become difficult.
According to project information, the total land area recovered for the expansion of this 4.95km route is 229,319.6 m2, of which Xuan Phuong ward is about 140,885.3 m2 (accounting for 61.4%); Son Dong commune is 19,554.7 m2 (accounting for 8.6%); Tay Mo ward is 68,879.6 m2 (accounting for 30%).

Vacant land along the road is often fenced off to be used as scrap yard or for building factories and shacks.

Previously, the project to expand 1.2km of Road 70 (from Nga Bridge to the boundary of the International Education Village project) and the road around the International Education Village with a total investment of 250 billion VND was implemented since 2020 but has not been completed yet due to the remaining land from Lane 6 Mieu Nha to Nga Bridge, creating a "bottleneck" causing serious congestion. Currently, this area is still cluttered with box culverts, concrete...

The section in the photo is the expanded section from Trinh Van Bo Street to Nga Bridge, 3.25km long, with a cross-section expected to be widened to 50m. The remaining section, from Thang Long Avenue to Ngo Thi Nham Street extension, is about 1.7km long and will have a cross-section of 40m upon completion.

Road 70 is one of the main traffic routes, connecting many areas in the west and south of the capital. This route connects with other major routes such as Ring Road 3, Le Trong Tan, National Highway 6, National Highway 32, and also acts as a bridge between Hanoi and neighboring provinces. This is also one of the traffic hotspots with constant congestion.
