(CPV) – The torch of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32) will be paraded through the streets of Hanoi, beginning its journey through 10 Southeast Asian countries.
Before arriving in Vietnam, the 32nd SEA Games torch was lit by Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni at Ankor Wat temple on the morning of March 21. The sacred flame was passed by King Norodom Sihamoni to representatives of the athletes participating in the 32nd SEA Games to carry around Angkor Wat temple and was kept at a special lamp at Reach Bo temple, Siem Reap city, before being carried through ASEAN countries.
The 32nd SEA Games torch is 75 cm tall and weighs more than 1 kg. The top of the torch is designed to resemble the Romdoul flower bud, the national flower of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and is gold-plated to represent the Kingdom and the Cambodian people have risen and developed. The design on the handle of the torch has many unique motifs representing solidarity in the work of building peace and success for the country and the Southeast Asian community.
On the night of March 22, the 32nd SEA Games torch was accompanied by 9 members of the Organizing Committee of the host country Cambodia to Hanoi . The torch was then kept at the Cambodian Embassy before being officially carried to Hanoi on March 24.
Deputy Director General of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training Le Thi Hoang Yen said that Vietnam is the first leg of the torch relay of the 32nd SEA Games, after the host country. Track and field athlete Nguyen Thi Huyen - multiple SEA Games champion - and 200 outstanding athletes will join the torch relay, starting from the Cambodian Embassy to the streets of Hanoi.
According to plan, after completing its journey in Vietnam, the 32nd SEA Games torch will continue to the Philippines.
After returning to Cambodia, the flame will participate in a number of activities until May 5, when Cambodia officially opens the 32nd SEA Games - 12th ASEAN Para Games at Morodok Techo National Stadium in the capital Phnom Penh.
The 32nd SEA Games will take place from May 5 to 17 in the capital Phnom Penh and four provinces of Cambodia: Siem Reap, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot and Kep.
After that, the 12th ASEAN Para Games will be held from June 3-9./.
