On June 19, Fox News reported that Terry Luttrell - veteran singer of the famous rock band REO Speedwagon - had a serious car accident last Sunday morning, just hours after participating in a reunion performance in Illinois (USA).
The accident left him with a broken chest bone due to the impact force from the airbag and he had to be hospitalized for rehabilitation.

Speaking from his hospital room, Luttrell said he fell asleep while driving to St. Louis on personal business.
“I was able to stand up and get out of the car. The airbag went off and hit my chest and broke my ribs. I had back and neck pain, but it was nothing I couldn’t handle,” Luttrell said.
Luttrell revealed that he only got a few hours of sleep after the show because he stayed up until 2am signing autographs for fans. “They brought me albums from REO Speedwagon and Starcastle and asked me to sign them. They were so friendly, I couldn’t say no,” he shared.
Although he knew he was tired, Luttrell did not foresee the serious consequences: “I felt a little sleepy but did not think anything would happen. I fell asleep and then woke up in a cocoon of airbags and the car was completely destroyed.”
Luttrell remains in hospital and is expected to remain there for several more days. Messages of support have poured in from music industry friends and fans since news of the accident broke.

Terry Luttrell was the lead vocalist of REO Speedwagon from 1968-1972 and then a member of the band Starcastle from 1973-1979.
Even at the age of 78, he is still active in the arts, performing at music events across the United States.
