In the bustling, exciting atmosphere of the great holiday, people in the southernmost land of the Fatherland joined millions of hearts across the country, looking towards the parade - march to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, broadcast live on Vietnam Television on the morning of April 30.
Many young people, youth union members and war veterans gathered at the hall of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School (Ward 9, Ca Mau City) very early to watch the parade on television.
From early morning, the central streets of Ca Mau City were brightly decorated with flags, slogans and banners welcoming the grand ceremony. Along the small alleys, each household turned on the TV, the sound of cheers, music and heroic marching footsteps created a resonant space full of emotions and national pride. In a small corner of the Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School auditorium, many veterans and youth union members were present very early, eagerly following each heroic step of the marching groups taking place in Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nguyen, 73 years old (Ward 9, Ca Mau City), a veteran who participated in the resistance war against the US, sat quietly among the rows of seats in the hall, his eyes fixed on the screen. He emotionally shared: “I have lived half a century in peace, and today, witnessing this sacred moment, my heart is filled with emotion as if I were reliving the days of fighting in the fire and smoke. The next generation must see that today's independence is the crystallization of the blood and bones of many generations. I am proud to be Vietnamese.”
The sacred moment when the whole hall stood up to salute the flag.
Along with the previous generations were young union members in green volunteer shirts, holding the national flag, their eyes sparkling with pride, waiting for a precious moment that only happens once every 50 years. Despite the holiday, many young people were still present to watch the live broadcast on national television, creating an exciting atmosphere like a big festival of their homeland. Nguyen Phuong Tu, a member of Ward 9, said: “This is the first time I have watched a live parade on such an important occasion. Every time the army passed by the screen, my heart stopped. I love this country more than ever.”
Although watching the parade on television, everyone cheered enthusiastically.
The commentary from the parade program mixed with the heroic melody of revolutionary songs spreading throughout the neighborhoods and rooftops in Ca Mau City are the images we recorded this morning. From early morning, Mr. Diep Sa Ruol's family (Hamlet 2, Ward 1) wore red flag and yellow star shirts, gathered with their children and grandchildren to wait for this special program.
He emotionally said: “Pride and emotion are what I can express at this moment. Although I am far away and conditions do not allow me to come to Ho Chi Minh City to watch it live, but from many days of watching the rehearsals until today watching the official parade on the small screen, I feel extremely overwhelmed. After 50 years of independence and unification, our country is making new steps in development. We, the Khmer people, always strive to maintain national unity, compete to develop the economy , and build our homeland.”
Mr. Diep Sa Ruol's family gathered together to watch the parade on TV.
Not only an important political event, this year's parade for the people of Ca Mau is also an opportunity to look back on the past 50 years - a journey of resilience, solidarity and undying faith in the era of national development. Ca Mau today has put on a new coat of aspirations to reach far, but in every heartbeat of the people here, there is still intact pride in the past and determination to preserve the achievements of the revolution, the achievements of peace. April 30 is not only a historical milestone, but also a day of gratitude, of joy of reunion and of affirmation: Whether at the source or the end of the country, millions of hearts still beat as one - towards the mountains and rivers, the beloved Fatherland.
