Israelis take cover next to cars on the road as rockets are fired from the Gaza Strip. Sirens were sounded in about 30 areas across central Israel, including Tel Aviv, and some minor injuries were reported from the attack.
The Islamist movement Hamas said it had fired rockets at Tel Aviv, causing sirens to sound in Israel's second most populous city for the first time in months, according to Al Jazeera. The Israeli military said it detected eight rockets fired from the Rafah area in southern Gaza. Israel said its air defences intercepted some of them.
