Consumers rush to stockpile food before super typhoon number 3

In the dispatch on emergency response to super typhoon No. 3, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that a quick report from a number of distribution businesses including Saigon Coop, BRG mart, Wincommerce, Central Retail, Mega Market, Lotte mart, Aeon mart... said that the number of customers coming to buy goods from the evening of September 5 has increased, but the current supply of goods at the points of sale of supermarkets still meets the demand well.

Following the direction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and assessing people's purchasing needs during heavy rain and storms, businesses have proactively increased their stockpiles of goods by 2-3 times compared to before.

In addition, supermarket systems in areas affected by storm No. 3 have plans to transfer goods from neighboring localities to points of sale in areas affected by the storm. At the same time, businesses also have plans to ensure safety and prepare to respond when the storm arrives; increase online sales activities, support fast delivery; keep close communication with local authorities and the Ministry of Industry and Trade; establish emergency response teams...

Currently, market management forces in provinces affected by the storm are stepping up market inspection and control to promptly prevent acts of speculation, hoarding, and profiteering when demand for goods increases, causing market instability.

Up to now, through preliminary reports from the Departments of Industry and Trade and distribution enterprises, the market situation of goods in localities affected by the storm is still basically stable, purchasing power of fresh food, instant noodles and drinks has increased but supply still basically meets demand well.

According to the assessment of the Department of Industry and Trade of localities, the supply of essential goods will be guaranteed and sufficient for consumers before, during and after the storm.

In the dispatch, the Ministry of Industry and Trade requested the Departments of Industry and Trade to direct enterprises supplying goods in the area to effectively implement plans to reserve essential goods; review areas at risk of being isolated due to rain and floods to have specific plans to ensure the supply of essential goods, especially food, foodstuffs, and drinking water for people in affected areas.

It is known that the Department of Industry and Trade of some localities in the storm-affected areas (such as Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Thai Binh , Nam Dinh, Lang Son, Bac Kan...) has directed large production and distribution enterprises in the area to report on their capacity to reserve and supply essential goods in order to promptly mobilize and supply them to people when requested.

The items stocked are essential goods and necessities such as rice, instant noodles, dry food, bottled water, gasoline and other items in high demand during the storm and flood season (roofing sheets, steel wire, screws, medicine, etc.), ensuring timely service to the needs of people in disaster areas.

These items are stocked at the warehouses of organizations and businesses participating in stockpiling goods and are ready to supply to disaster-affected areas upon request.

The volume of essential goods in reserve is estimated to meet 5-10 days of use (depending on the situation, capacity and characteristics of the locality). In case of a widespread natural disaster, where all local reserves have been mobilized but still cannot meet the demand, the locality will propose or mobilize from sources and units inside and outside the province to ensure timely response.
