Duncan Jefferys, 50, had almost given up hope after seven days of fishing on Lake Le Botte, France, according to Dailystar. However, on the last night, he spotted a fish-shaped cloud in the sky and the next morning, a pull of his fishing rod sent his adrenaline soaring.
The carp weighs nearly 20kg.
The father of four from Rhyl, North Wales, said: "The lake is full of fish but catching them is a real challenge.
I put out quite a bit of bait, but by the end of the holiday I still hadn't caught a fish, even though I had my rod in the water all week.
The last night, a guy and I were fishing and we spotted a cloud in the sky. I took a picture of it and then I noticed that the reflection in the lake looked exactly like a carp, which gave me a little hope. I thought, maybe this is the carp god showing me a sign.
Duncan added: "At around 7am the next morning my fishing rod broke so I decided to jump in the water and after 20 minutes I caught a common carp weighing almost 20kg on the last day of my holiday.
The colour of the carp was exactly like the clouds in the sky, it was really amazing. It weighed almost 20kg, what a remarkable achievement - it was even bigger than my dog."
It is understood that this is not the first time Duncan has caught a giant carp. His record catch is a 20kg carp, while his son Kyle caught a 21kg carp.
“It’s a great relaxing hobby. There aren’t many places in the UK that have fish over 18kg, which is why we go to France.
This time we had to battle the heat which reached 35 degrees and I was bitten by mosquitoes. But the thrill of catching the carp was amazing, there is no better feeling than that,” Duncan revealed.
