The doctors of the Emergency Department performed resuscitation and intubation. At the same time, the team invited the Department of Anesthesia and Neurosurgery for consultation. However, due to the patient's serious condition, it was difficult to save him. After a thorough explanation, the patient's family made a noble gesture - agreeing to donate his tissues and organs to save others.
An organ donation was performed at Thong Nhat Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City.
On the morning of June 13, after receiving the conclusion of the brain death assessment council, the Director of Thong Nhat Hospital chaired a professional consultation with experts from the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center, Hospital 108, Hue Central Hospital and Children's Hospital 2.
On the afternoon of June 13, surgeons successfully removed 7 organ tissue units from a brain-dead patient.
Of these, 2 kidneys were transplanted to 2 patients at Thong Nhat Hospital, 1 heart and part of liver, 2 corneas were transplanted to 4 patients at Hue Central Hospital, and 1 part of liver was transplanted to a patient at Children's Hospital 2.
Currently, the 5 transplant patients are progressing well, with the two corneas being prepared for transplant. The Board of Directors of Thong Nhat Hospital has also assigned departments to organize a thoughtful funeral for the organ donors and bring them back to their hometowns for burial.
