Mr. Le Van Nghien, Hanoi , visited Hong Ngoc General Hospital with severe abdominal pain, especially in the epigastric region. Through gastrointestinal endoscopy, the doctor discovered a large ulcer with a diameter of 2cm at the junction between the antrum and the body of the stomach, with a base covered with white pseudomembrane and blood clots, and an edematous edge causing deformation and narrowing of the antrum, suspected of cancer.
The CT scan and subsequent biopsy results confirmed that the patient had poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma and had enlarged lymph nodes in the epigastric region. Mr. Nghien was scheduled for partial gastrectomy and lymph node dissection to treat the cancer.

With the goal of ensuring maximum safety for patients, before surgery, patients are consulted by interdisciplinary specialists in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Anesthesia, Resuscitation, Oncology, Nutrition, etc. and have their cardiopulmonary function comprehensively assessed, ensuring a stable condition and good response to anesthesia and resuscitation conditions.
“Because the patient is old and in poor health, all surgical conditions need to be carefully prepared, and at the same time, the possibility of metastasis must be accurately assessed to ensure maximum safety for the patient,” Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung, Head of the Department of General Surgery - Hong Ngoc General Hospital - Phuc Truong Minh, the doctor who directly performed the surgery on Mr. Nghien, shared.
During the surgery, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung and his team removed 4/5 of the stomach and removed 15 lymph nodes for biopsy. The results showed that the tumor was in stage T1, had just invaded the submucosa, had not metastasized, and was removed during the surgery.

Thanks to careful preparation, the entire surgery went smoothly, the patient had little pain, and recovered quickly after surgery. Just 3 days after surgery, Mr. Nghien was able to eat porridge, practice walking, and do light activities.
"When I learned that Associate Professor Hung directly performed the surgery, my family felt secure and had absolute trust. Luckily, I recovered exactly as the doctor initially predicted. My family is very grateful to the doctor," Mr. Nghien shared after the surgery.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung, about 5-10% of cases of gastric ulcers are actually latent cancers. However, early signs such as abdominal pain above the navel, bloating, nausea, indigestion, etc. are easily confused with common stomach diseases, causing many people to be subjective and delay in examination. Therefore, when any abnormal manifestations in the digestive tract appear, people need to go for examination as soon as possible for timely diagnosis and treatment.
"Digestive endoscopy is the gold standard in diagnosing gastrointestinal cancer. In addition, if the disease is detected at an early stage, when the lesion is located in the superficial submucosal layer, the patient can be completely treated by endoscopy without surgery," said Dr. Hung.

In addition, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung also emphasized that the habit of long-term alcohol use not only increases the risk of ulcers and stomach cancer, but also causes serious damage to the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. Therefore, limiting alcoholic beverages and maintaining regular health check-ups are necessary to protect the digestive system as well as overall health.
With the goal of helping the majority of people have comprehensive health check-ups and detect cancer at an early stage, Hong Ngoc General Hospital is implementing a program offering up to 25% discount on cancer screening services from August 15 to September 15.
During this time, customers who choose cancer screening at the 55 Yen Ninh facility will receive a direct 25% discount. Early screening is the optimal solution to help each person proactively protect their health, promptly adjust their lifestyle and intervene medically when necessary.
