'Iron Man' Nguyen Thanh Cong takes on the mission to rescue PVF-CAND

On the morning of November 25, PVF-CAND Club held a ceremony to announce new head coach Nguyen Thanh Cong.

PVF-CAND Club changes 'general'

PVF-CAND Club has become the sixth team in V-League 2025 - 2026 to change head coach, when saying goodbye to Thach Bao Khanh to appoint Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong to the "hot seat".

Coach Nguyen Thanh Cong is known for his disciplined style, emphasizing organization and balance in attack and defense. He focuses on building a cohesive squad, proactive defense and quick transitions.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong started his coaching career by training youth at SLNA, Viettel and Da Nang. In 2018, he marked a turning point in his career when he helped Saigon FC stay in the league. After that, he became the head coach of Thanh Hoa, Quang Nam and Ha Tinh.

Coach Thanh Cong's career peak took place during his tenure at Ha Tinh Club (2021 - 2025). Despite coaching a mid-level team, the son of the famous coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh still helped Ha Tinh Club continuously compete in the top group. Last season, Ha Tinh became the second team in history to go undefeated in the first leg (after Ha Noi Club in the 2018 season), then finished in 5th place.

Coach Nguyen Thanh Cong will leave Ha Tinh Club at the end of the 2024-2025 season and go to Japan to "train" as a coach.

During his time coaching Ha Tinh Club, the Nghe An strategist skillfully "measured his coat according to his cloth". According to Mr. Cong, as long as he puts the player in the right position, every player has value and contributes to the team in their own way.

There was a time when Ha Tinh FC was jokingly called... "Hoa Tinh" because of too many draws in V-League. But that is also the thorny nature of this team. Each individual player may not be good, but when put together, coach Nguyen Thanh Cong's team is hard to beat.

That is the team that the strategist from Nghe An said "has a high sense of professionalism and solidarity together".

Becoming the head coach of PVF-CAND, Coach Nguyen Thanh Cong is expected to help the team stay in the league. PVF-CAND has only won 8 points after 11 matches, ranking 13th. With a young squad, most of whom are playing in the V-League for the first time, PVF-CAND is trying to adapt to a playing field that requires more skill and experience.

With a good "firefighting" strategist like Mr. Thanh Cong, PVF-CAND wants to return to the safe group. Mr. Cong's debut match will take place on February 1, 2026, when the team welcomes the Ho Chi Minh City Police Club at PVF's home field.
